Read Jorge Cernavtes grow bible. It gives detailed information on not only how to grow, but the how and why of each step in the process. Different color temps for the flowering vs vegetaive state is something he touches on, how lumens is a better indicator of light quality vs watts.

Seriously, download it and read nothing else until you're done with it. Lots of other info is from deadbeat stoner faggots.
