also, there are certain situations that call for certain equipment. A phone is probably the best hidden cam device ever created. Unless you are performing an open capture, you'll need to invest in smaller, less convenient, cameras. Beyond the open approach, your ultimate concern is concealment. If anyone notices a small camera they will immediately become suspicious so you must go to far links to hide it. By far the best way to hide cameras is to use shadows to your advantage. Placing a camera in a shadowy area allows the target to be filmed, utilizing the ambient light of the target area, but does not permit the camera to be seen (hence the shadow). Perfect placements for this are potted plants (or fake plants), laundry hampers, open cabinets (underneath sinks), closets, etc. But be perceptive. Look around and study the target area. Sometimes there are convenient little hidy holes with shadow spots perfect for concealment. I once hid a cam in a laundry shute that had a broken door that was permanently creased open.

Above all, your primary concern should always be avoiding suspicion. Whether you are using open or hidden capture, suspicion is the critical element that either rewards a successful recording, or gets you jail time. If at any moment you get a sense that there is no way to place a cam for open/hidden capture without reducing suspicion then back out immediately and prepare a new plan. This is part of the game. Just like you can never expect perfect recordings, you can never expect perfect settings conducive for creepshots. It is up to you to ensure your success, to not only capture an adequate shot, but to also avoid being made. I've heard of others being caught because they assumed the targets were unaware, only to find that the continuous attempts to plot against them (camera placements becoming more and more obvious) made them suspicious, eventually making them curious. I've only been nearly caught once after viewing the footage and noticing that the target looked directly at the device and made a curious face. That was the last time that setting was used for hidden capture.

I would also invest in some encrypted storage to store the data. Look at using Truecrypt at partitioning a small portion of your harddrive to store and view footage. You can never be too careful.
