I got in an argument with some people today.
I said that the definition of the term "weekend" includes Friday night and the other people disagreed with me. They said that it only includes Saturday and Sunday.
What do you think? Does the term "weekend" include Friday night?
I'm very strict with my speaking and grammar to the point of being obsessive, so I want second opinions.

Weekend by definition is Saturday and Sunday.
Friday Night is still a weekday albeit the end of a weekday.
12am Saturday morning is beginning of weekend
You are right and they are niggers
The weekend is Sat/Sun.
Just because you can start partying Friday night doesn't make it part of the weekend in any technical sense.
Monday through Friday are Weekdays, faggot.
PERIOD.
But the middle east starts their weekends after Friday prayers are over, so if you keep insisting Friday begins the weekend, then the terrorists win...
Autists. Techically it is sat and sun but if you went to college or are cool then the weekend starts Friday night
why are you faggots supporting the terrorists?
>>684924902
Terrorists are butt fucking off of our values not the other way around. Friday is not terrorist day unless you are in Europe
>>684924124
Nigga ain't wrong...
In English, "weekend" refers to the end of the working week, which is Friday after 5pm, and Saturday. Sunday is the first day of the week and traditionally the Lord's day, not the weekend.
>>684923674
if you have nothing to do the next day, you can call it a weekend.

weekend is friday night. Its the cuture and the freedom that make a weekend. That and the fact that there's no more work.
If you wanted to get really technical sunday is the beginning of the week.
>>684926314
Yeah but only beta autists with severe OCD don't consider friday night part of the weekend even though "technically" it is saturday and sunday. You finish work and then it is the weekend
>>684923674
If you were working on a Friday night, you wouldn't say, "I'm working this weekend." Friday is a weekday. Sat+Sun is weekend.
Who doesn't consider Friday night part of the weekend?
Technically it isn't, but you get the same exact feeling of relief and relaxation as you would on a Saturday.
I've always understood that the weekend was the (work)weekend. So like, the end of the work week. Which to me is whenever you get off of work on a friday.
And since normal calendars go sunday to saturday, technically the weekend would just be saturday, with sunday being the beginning of the new week.
Sunday is actually the first day of the week, therefore it can not be part of the weekEND.
There is no such thing as week-end, since the days go in a circle. A circle does not have an end. Therefore there is no week-end.
>>684926577
I say that every fucking time I work a friday night.
>>684925632
>Sunday is the first day of the week and traditionally the Lord's day, not the weekend
Sunday is NOT the first day of the week in most calendars outside America.
On the SEVENTH day he rested.

>>684926735
this is stupid.

>>684926735
It's not a circle you jackfuck. The week starts, runs for 7 days, then it ends before a new weeks starts.

implying that any calendar system other than what the golden city on the hill uses matters at all.
I work in restaurants so I never have a weekend off. The weekend IS Saturday and Sunday. Friday is a working day for the 9 to 5s because you WORK on that day. Saturday and Sunday are the week END. My weekend is when I have a day off.
A week is just an arbitrary unit of time. The beginning and end are random.
Pulled open three dictionaries. Literally all of them said 1. Sat-Sunday
and then 2. Friday night to Sunday eve.
Also, it's usually considered leisure time.

pic related if you disagree
If faggot liberals can say they are women because they have fat man titties and tuck their cocks in, you can say friday is weekend because it identifies as so

Me. The OP.
I inordinately care about the manner in which I speak. I almost corrected my doctor last time I had a checkup. He told me to "lay down" and I had to bite my lip to stop myself from telling him that it's "lie down".
What's funny is that I'm normally super technical about definitions, so I should be in the 'Saturday and Sunday' group, but I'm not. I include Friday night as part of the "weekend". Maybe it's because I grew up with TGIF.
>>684923877
>Weekend by definition is Saturday and Sunday.
As a general rule maybe, but technically weekend is when your personal working week ends. So for me, 16:20 Friday afternoon and 16:20 every second Thursday afternoon.
Not OP though so.

>I'm autistic
>>684927484
Because it's all about the vernacular in this situation. The actual definition is meaningless. Remember when irregardless wasn't in the dictionary and everyone who used it was stupid? Same thing here.
It's still "nonstandard" btw, but no longer incorrect.
>>684927484
TGIF is based on the fact that it is your last "work day." As in as soon as I leave, I am off work and the weekend has begun. Which is Saturday and Sunday. Honestly Sunday barely is acceptable in my eyes as a weekend day because you have to set an alarm

Wrong.
If Friday after 5pm = Weekend then Monday before 9am = Weekend as well.
