I just watched it the other night at a party (People were baked and wanted to get freaked out). Still as good as I remember.

I miss the creativity of classic horror. I realize that the Thing wasn't entirely original (Based off a book) but in the process of creating the movie it was loaded with creativity. Most modern horror movies are just jumpscare fests filled with either ghosts or just killers. Really bland imo.

One of my favourite movies of all time.

I never found the movie to be "scary" in the sense, but it is fucking fantastic. I've seen it several times including once with the full directors commentary.

The special effects were out of this world and are still incredible. All the reboots or remakes just looked like shit cgi compared to the ingenuity they used to get the puppets to work in this film.

I agree it definitely isn't scary in the sense that I'm afraid to watch it; I would call it "freaky" at best.

However the really freaky part is that the human's create most of their own conflict. So many of the character's actions are believable and that's why it's such a good movie. The humans paranoia and distrust of one another leads to their ultimate downfall. It's a definite "what would I do if I was there" sorta movie.

The Children (2008) is another relatively recent favorite. It's really hard to make children actually scary, and this film delivers.

Most horror/comedies fail in the horror department. AAWiL and ED2 (along with Shaun of the Dead) succeeded in both departments, IMO.

Am I the only person alive that really liked The Wolfman (2010)? Great performances out of Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Hugo Weaving, plus a perfectly self aware immersion in the classic gothic genre, and if you just wanted to see a werewolf do werewolf shit then you definitely got your money's worth.
