there's only one God-tier horror movie
horror movies never deliver. get a grip you underaged pussy.
well... Alien is actually sci-fi/horror. that is a scary movie.
>>684544766
is that when she saw woody allen fucking her kids?
>>684541113
If Incidious is a good horror movie then you must love The Strangers
OP the sooner you realize that true horror is not something that can be described or present on screen, the better.
Fuck niggers
Lake mungo
Blair witch project
The ring
Banshee Chapter or The Pact werent half bad.
Is there a horror movie without lazy jumpscares, just with intense atmosphere you can recommend?
CREEPSHOW old but gold, one of the few movies i continue to enjoy watching on occasion. The ring, shutter, and any other horror film originating from japan is usually fucking great, but really? Insidious is shit
Wreck it Ralph

Premonition
The Exorcist
28 Days Later
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Event Horizon
Hellraiser, 1 and 2

It's top ten for me, and only one of two horror films I've given a 10/10 to. The other is picture related.
>>684541113

This is one of the few horror movies that really freaks me out.

>>684547428

>>684547388
Bro. Grave Encounters - outside of the last 20 minutes - best horror ever. I've never had a horror just fill me with such dred and anxiety.
>>684547547
I just watched it the other night at a party (People were baked and wanted to get freaked out). Still as good as I remember.
I miss the creativity of classic horror. I realize that the Thing wasn't entirely original (Based off a book) but in the process of creating the movie it was loaded with creativity. Most modern horror movies are just jumpscare fests filled with either ghosts or just killers. Really bland imo.
Evil dead remake
The conjuring
Cabin in the woods
The boy
The witch... the ass you get to see in this one. My God.
>>684547535

>>684547786
1982 version.
1950's version (The Thing from another world) is alright; although it barely resembles the source novel.
2011 prequel isn't horrible; but it's basically just another Thing movie with a weaker main character and less memorable moments.
>>684544637
Salo is just a boring try hard shitty movie - no pun intended.
>>684548039
Not that hard to find.
>>684546925
Dude, this had me actually looking at my kitchen door and thinking
>what if a dead-eyed dripping wet naked woman shuffled out of there right now?
and I was NOT erect. Pee pee was shriveled up from fear. Best horror film of recent years IMO.
Another favorite. Way ahead of its time.
>>684547789
>tension build-up, atmosphere, and general story can't be creepy
alright buddy. have fun being scared of nothing ever.
except shit you can't see of course. be scared of nothing. much better.
The Bay. It's the best found footage one out there. In fact, watch it right now http://putlocker.is/watch-the-bay-online-free-putlocker.html

>>684547873
One of my favourite movies of all time.
I never found the movie to be "scary" in the sense, but it is fucking fantastic. I've seen it several times including once with the full directors commentary.
The special effects were out of this world and are still incredible. All the reboots or remakes just looked like shit cgi compared to the ingenuity they used to get the puppets to work in this film.
>>684548175
On the off chance that you're not trolling, maybe you'd like to suggest something?

>>684547160
"pseudo-philosophical" is just an exuse you put to yourself to invalidate his argument without any points.
>>684548298
One way to think of the settings of the films.
>>684548603
I agree it definitely isn't scary in the sense that I'm afraid to watch it; I would call it "freaky" at best.
However the really freaky part is that the human's create most of their own conflict. So many of the character's actions are believable and that's why it's such a good movie. The humans paranoia and distrust of one another leads to their ultimate downfall. It's a definite "what would I do if I was there" sorta movie.
On netflix right now?
Hush. It's pretty good, all told.
Actual God Tier genre picture?
Bride of Frankenstein.
Not scary, but check yourself, son. It's God tier.
>>684546925
Couldn't agree with you more. Very original and it has an awesome sound track thats icing on the cake. Disaster Piece has some really chilling music that's also somehow relaxing in a weird way.
>>684548703
Horror is a very subjective genre, but I find that movie boring and not scary. I wasn't raised in a religious household though.
>>684548669
I was also a pretty big fan of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Some legit spooky shit. Poughkeepsie Tapes were pretty shit. Psycho murder porn mockumentary level shit.
>>684547384
The thrills didn't make me jump or anything. But that movie hit some weird nerve, man.
Tossed and turned a bit that night, lol
>>684547786
You can follow the links and see the poster of the version I was referring to.
>>684548179
Are you me? These are my thoughts exactly. People calling Carpenter's version a "remake" rustle my jimmies. His adaptation was much more faithful to the source novella. Howard Hawks' version took many, many liberties with the plot and characters. Even inserted a love story...
The Children (2008) is another relatively recent favorite. It's really hard to make children actually scary, and this film delivers.
>>684547388
/thread
Seriously though, 28 Days Later is fucking amazing
>>684548977
Yep; it followed the events that happened at the Norwegian Camp that Mac and Dr. Copper explore in the 1982 film.
After the credits roll you see a dog run off and a helicopter arrives at the camp. The base's only survivor (I think his name was Lars or something) and the pilot chase after the dog leading to the first scene of the 82 film.

Oh I want to throw Aftermath in there too.
Not exactly a horror, not exactly a movie, but pretty nuts regardless. Every other disturbing movie seems to try way too hard, but Aftermath is the perfect amount of disturbing creepiness.
>>684550472
Tried to watch it. Was bored out of my damn mind and ended up turning it off about an hour in.
I'm all for movies that give you the feeling of dread and don't rely strictly on jumpscares but damn was that movie boring.

Yeah but it's a great movie. My favorite kaiju film by far.
The Living and the Dead holds the distinction of being the only film I've actually had to turn off from it getting to me so badly. Mind you, I was pretty high, but I usually am when watching movies.
>>684550652
Is this one good I always see it o. Netflix but it looks shitty

>>684550893
Had a ton of wasted potential. When the kid fell into a coma I thought it was him roaming the halls at night not hellboy, that would've been creepy.
Also the main demon looked like Mr tumnus, darth maul, and Freddy Kruger had a baby.
>>684550509
Naa The Shining is a great movie. Not exactly scary besides the bathroom scene, but great movie.
>>684550386
Poughkeepsie Tapes is scary? That shit? REALLY?
>>684550653
despite the effort, the movie never creates a particular uneasiness or genuine terror, there a lot of thoughts in the movie, but they don't do anything for the viewer experience itself
>>684550925
It's actually just funny as fuck. That's all.
>>684550608
My favorite vampire film.

>>684545726
The Witch was pretty good....if you can get over the old-timey archaic english they use throughout
>>684546925
Stupidest piece of shit I've seen since The Babadook. Horribly boring plot with so many giant holes Charlie Sheen wouldn't even fuck it.
What I find really weird, is that this planet is crawling with fucking kike, yet people look to Hollywood for scary content.
Nothing in our world is more horrific than the shit that goes on behind the scenes of reality.
>>684550472
When I'm walking outside in the darkness at night and I get scared, it's Bagul's face that I see in my mind.
>>684550652
>>684550925
Best horror/comedy in recent years. NZ has cornered the market on that niche. Deathgasm, Breandead (Dead Alive)....
Might be too slow for many, but if you can hang, The Wicker Man (1973) has the best depiction of dread I've seen on screen. Based Christopher Lee's favorite film, too.
>>684545545
This movie is not good. I watched it on account of the suggestions of 4chan.
It's a lame story, with lame villians, and a lame finale. The campy dialogue that is supposed to be all Tarantino, just comes off as slow and stupid.
I'd give this movie a C+ at best!

The Strangers - scariest movie I've seen: fyi insidious, sinister, etc are all shit. I've also heard The Witch is pretty good. Fuck most horror movies though. >>684541113
A while ago I figured out the name of a good horror flick here with some help from /tv. Its called 188 arletta avenue, iirc, the number could be off, a street address is a bad name for a movie. If you liked the whole "this could actually sorta happen" feeling from The Strangers, and don't have a problem with found footage style you can enjoy it. Maybe not god tier, but that said, horror flicks are shit anyways, its all part of the experience, ya know?

Most horror/comedies fail in the horror department. AAWiL and ED2 (along with Shaun of the Dead) succeeded in both departments, IMO.
Am I the only person alive that really liked The Wolfman (2010)? Great performances out of Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Hugo Weaving, plus a perfectly self aware immersion in the classic gothic genre, and if you just wanted to see a werewolf do werewolf shit then you definitely got your money's worth.
