Many of them have been renovated to be used as businesses. The reason they are being thrown back on the market is mainly because those (mainly tourism-oriented) businesses are unsustainable in villages nobody cares about.
But I'll give you that stuff like upkeep are probably a hassle in >15 rooms, without proper staff. Which is why I'm mainly interested in smaller winter residences. But those barely make it to the market, because old money likes to keep that stuff in the family.
