What do you faggots think about this setup?

https://www.pccasegear.com/sc/hy6

Intel Core i7 6700
Gigabyte H170 D3HP Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 64GB Ram
Corsair RM 1000x PSU (1000W)

Upgrading from a
Intel Core2 Quad 2.4GHz
Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Motherboard
4GB DDR2 Ram
NVidia Geforce 9500GT
400W PSU

Currently have,
1 120GB SanDisk SSD
1 1TB WD 7200 SATA HDD
2 160GB WD 7200 IDE HDD
1 SATA DVD-RW

Will be taking the SSD, 1TB SATA HDD and the DVD to the new system, and obtaining a second 1TB 7200 HDD to replace the two IDE drives.
Currently using 3 monitors, 2 out from the NVidia (DVI & HDMI) and the DSub from the Motherboard. New board planning on just using the 3 outputs on the board.
Case needs to be on the cart in order to place the old bits in. Need to keep the older computer running as a second station.
Need to be at $1400 or lower for the setup as the postage puts me to my limit of $1500 (Stupid AUS prices)

Primary use is as a workstation (Blender, After effects, Photoshop, Pro Tools).
Secondary use is gaming, mostly older games, newest being Borderlands: Pre sequel, Darksiders 2, for example, but would like option for newer games.

TL:DR What do you think about this setup? https://www.pccasegear.com/sc/hy6
>>
Why the need of 64gb ram?
>>
>>684416580
Was thinking of long term upgrade, will allow a lot larger projects to be open within the work programs (Blender, After effects, etc) with less lag, theoretically.

Also since someone else is buying this for me, want to get the maximum upgrade possible for now, and add my own parts later as I get funds (Dedicated Vid card, M.2 Drive, etc)
>>
>Spends 1400
>no gpu
>64gb of RAM

are people this stupid?
>>
Take out all that nerd shit and stick in a Ganja plant
>>
>>684417121
First purchase I would be making for myself when I get the funds (as I said, someone else is buying this for me at the moment), would be a GPU. Was looking at a Radeon R7 370 Nitro Dual-X 4GB.

https://www.pccasegear.com/products/32302/sapphire-radeon-r7-370-nitro-dual-x-4gb

As this will fit my need of being able to run at least 3 monitors.
>>
>>684417121
Apparently so...

OP has also decided to use a motherboard that is crossfire only with a 1000w PSU.
Judging by the build the system will utilise rendering programs that require CUDA. You don't find those cores in abundance on AMD chips.
GG OP you've chosen the world's shittest PC.

Get a 6600k
16GB RAM
750w PSU
dedicated GPU

It's not that hard
>>
>>684417407
Why the fuck would you have an OP processor and attach this shit? Are you retarded??

Why do you have a 1000w power supply for such a piddly setup?

Save up and get a GTX 1080 you nobrocket
>>
>>684417421
>>684417121
Hence why I am asking, as you can see from the specs of the current PC I have, it has been a while since I have built a PC and want some opinions from people who are up to date with tech
>>
>>684417546
1000w Was for long term viability, will be upgrading and getting a dedicated GPU as soon as funds are avaiable
>>
>>684415746
>not getting a K cpu
>64GB RAM
>1000 w psu
>r9 370

You're spending money in all the wrong places. I'd advise you do so more research before purchasing
>>
>>684417664
Okay look, first off what is this machine for? What's its intended use?
And don't say "I render sometimes" when you're just going to game on it, be honest, if you aren't a sound or picture engineer you don't need an i7.
>>
>>684417407
I was going to say something about mixing amd graphics with intel chipsets but I see that motherboard supports crossfire. So I guess thats an okay setup.
>>
>>684417865
Intended use as a breakdown is
20% Desktop workflow (Office, Net, etc)
20% Programming (Unity, Java, other misc)
20% gaming (when time allows)
40% 3d Modelling, Rendering, Photomanipulation, Audio engineering

Basically, 1st year university student (programming, business)
Do 3d work, photo manipulation and audio creation in my spare time as my primary break
And game each day before bed.

Basically always have something rendering when I am not currently using the computer at the moment
>>
Okay it's relatively simple

i5 6600k
Gigabyte/ASUS/MSI/AsRock motherboard with SLI capability and support for 32GB RAM
16GB Kingston/Corsair/Adata RAM
NVIDIA GPU to take advantage of those sweet CUDA cores, would recommend the GTX 970 or a 980 if your budget allows since they are losing price due to the new GTX 1070/80 announcement.
850w Power Supply will handle two graphics cards, they aren't as hungry as they used to be.

Would also recommend running your 1TB drives in RAID 1 for redundancy in case of a single drive failure, or run in RAID 0 and upload your files for backup.

If you want a source, I am an IT Consultant for a large UK Company and know the business for consumer and business grade kit.
>>
>>684417728
A single dedicated GPU doesn't require a 1000W PSU. A 600W PSU would be more than enough for a single-GPU setup.
Also, 64GB of RAM is stupid. Future proofing isn't buying 4 sticks of RAM now. It's buying a pair now, and a pair when you feel the need for more. Buy a pair of 8GB sticks now, for a total of 16 (sixteen) gigabytes. If you feel clogged at some point in the future, buy a second pair. It'll be probably cheaper. And less stupid.
>>
>>684415746
Is the psu a 80 platinum plus? Also I'm upgrading to i7 skylake to op.
>>
>>684418360
well here's all you need

>4690k
>16gb ram
>r9 390 (or buy my 290, i'll give you a deal. I'm upgrading to pascal.)
>z97s board
>>
>>684415746
Not bad I'm also upgrading my pc to

Had:
850 watt Antec psu
Amd fx 9590
Gtx 970 asus
Asus r2.0 evo mobo

Upgrading:
Intel i7 skylake
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero mobo
Corsair 1000 watt 80 plus platinum psu
And when the gtx 1080 comes out I'm getting it
>>
>>684415746
TRUST ME
You don't need ddr4 ram, take 16gb 1600/2400mhz ddr3 (if you just want to play videogames 32/64gb will actually LOWER you performace by ~5-7 fps)
-> buy an i7 4970k/4770k(4970/4770 you are not playing to oc)
-> any mobo between 100 and 150$ from asus, gigabyte, msi will do just fine
-> unless you are planning to have 2+ GPUs, 650-750w is the sweet spot for single video cards
>>
>>684418834
Also grabbing 64 gb of ddr4 ram I currently got 16gb of ddr3
>>
>>684418845
>>684418464
Eventual plan (as in the next 6-12 months) is to have 2 dedicated GPU's, connected via SLI/Crossfire.

As I stated earlier, the plan at the moment is to obtain the best upgrade possible, and to not drop below my current setup (hah I know) while not having to upgrade any of these parts when I buy the parts I am missing from this initial build.

You should reconsider.
I would recommend a non k i5. 16gb ddr4. 240gb ssd. Mid to high end semi passive vr-ready gpu. Also get a silent cpu cooler and an efficient psu. That way you stay in budget and stay future proof. You current setup will lead to too much unused resources and limited capabilities. Visit tomshardware for double check advice. Or google some system builders guides.
>>
>>684419396
I want full 64bit compatibility.

OP here. Well thanks for the advice guys. I've decided to get a PS4 as that will have VR support soon.

>>

...
you don't have a graphics card.
>>
>>684420505
Yet, as stated a few times, this is for the initial build to upgrade from my DDR2 system. Dedicated GPU will be coming within 6-12 months after purchase of this system, as someone else is willing to drop $1500 on a setup for me. So looking to get the best upgrade possible, even if it leaves me limping until I get the dedicated GPU.

Board has an inbuilt GPU that will allow me to run the low end programs that I will require until I can get the dedicated card.
>>
>>684415746
Upgrading video card?
>>
>>684421134
yes, in 6-12 months. Once I obtain funds
>>
>>684415746
1000w PSU is going to have a lot of excess heat and energy,64 GB of RAM is extremely unnecessary. It won't even speed up your system, 52 Gb of that will never ever ever be used. Waste of RAM, money, energy, and of course HEAT. Pointless setup OP

Still amateur with Blender, fairly good with AE. Still tend to have a lot of other files open whilst working within AE to ensure I am working towards the desired result.

Posting since the last build I had was in 2006, so I am fairly out of date with current tech specs, to say the least.
>>
>>684421238
You're faggot OP.
Upgrade your GPU first, and remember enw GPUs draw less energy and give you more performance, so for single card 750w PSU is more than enough.
Secondly get lower end CPU but K version and tweak it a bit, saves money and get same performance.

Nice OP. I might use this as a Base for my upgrade. I have no idea which gpu to get or should I get dual. Price matching with msy too prices are similar.
>>
>>684421596
Don't get Titan you dumb shit. GTX 1080 is 1/3 of the price and more performance.
>>

Titan? LMAO

>64GB RAM
calm down, anon
>>
>>684422046
care to elaborate faggot?
>>
>>684422030
This is what fucks me off. Why do they release shit like the titan when shit like this is out?
>>
>>684422663
Titan was never a good choice tbh. It was a toy for those rich who want 1fps more for $1000 extra.
At the release it was slightly better than GTX980 but it's price was around $1000 more. When GTX980Ti came out, not only it beat it by costing half of the price, it was also more performance. Now GTX1080 is cheaper than GTX980Ti and even more performance and less power consumption.
So really at the moment only logical move is purchase of 1080 or 1070 if we want to save a bit of cash. They will be out by the end of this month.

How does this look to you faggots?

https://www.pccasegear.com/sc/kVD

Intel i5 6700K
Corsair 2133 16GB Ram
Corsair 750w Platinum PSU
Gigabyte H170 D3HP Motherboard
Geforce GTX 950 2GB Vid card
Samsung 850 M.2. SSD (For OS)

Now that's much better
Now instead of $249 for GTX 950, wait 2 weeks and get GTX 1070 for $379.
Costs a bit more, but loads more performance.
GTX1070: 6.5 TFLOPs
GTX980Ti: 6.5 TFLOPs
GTX950: 1.57 TFLOPS

Using a Video editor, plus After effects can easily chew up ram up to 32gb without issue. Hence the allowance for 64GB then to also have image and audio manipulation software open when required, as well as any other programs needed.
>>
>>684422984
you are so full of shit
>>
>>684423071

>you're spending more on your PSU than your GPU
save money with a 120gb SSD for your OS and a couple of games, and just get a Hard drive instead.
I doubt you'll need 16gb of ram, but get your ram from MSY it's hella cheap
>>
>>684424077
Am I?

Witcher 3:
GTX980Ti around 80fps
Titan X: around 84fps
GTX980: 70fps

Prices:
GTX980Ti: $619
Titan X: $1,479
GTX980: $445

Give me one good reason to get Titan cards.

>>684424041
When doing video editing 64gb is totally reasonable.
Also I would stick with ssd, saves plenty of time when working with large files. And time is money
>>
>>684415746
I would get a Gtx 970. Would be more than enough for your gaming needs and can be had at steller prices right now since the 1070 and 1080 are on their way.

Upgraded from my q6600 & hd6970

6700k
Gigabyte Z170XP-sli
Gtx 980 gaming 4g
Corsair lpx 16gb ddr4 3200mhz
Corsair h75
Corsair tx650
Antec 900 case
Samsung evo 840 for system files
Scandisk ultra 2 960gb for game installs
Barracuda 1tb hd for documents

Built on a tight budget 2 months ago since I was wanting a new motorbike too or I could've went mad and got an 8 core CPU with 980ti but doubt I would've seen too much of an improvement anyway.
>>
>>684424588
isnt it obvious? vram
>>
>>684424916
Sheit, didn't think of that, especially when doing video editing.
Would be cheaper to get 2xGTX1070 and have total of 16gb in SLI.
>>
>>684424899
>evo 840
shit choice after all that firmware-trouble which still isnt solved properly.

>Gtx 980
should have waited just another month to see the price drop and save cash on that gpu

>Corsair h75
im no fan of watercooling since its worth shit except you do extreme oc. air-cooler still are best choice.
>>
>>684425125
Vram doesn't stack like that tho it mirrors...unless video editing uses it differently I wouldnt know but I doubt it
>>
>>684425125
>>684425244
Current plan is to get at least 1 GTX1070 within 6-12 months.
The current idea is to get as large of an upgrade as I can now, since I am able to get someone to foot $1500 for an upgrade for me.

So I understand that until I get a dedicated GPU my video editing will have to be light, as using the onboard card for anything heavy will not be healthy for the system.
