I have pretty bad DDD in my lumbar vertebrae.

Lots of lower back pain, but the sciatic pain on my entire leg is by far more unbearable.

Had multiple surgeries and PT and drugs, nothing has worked other than lots of opiates.

Is it likely that I just have permanently damaged nerves and will always have the sciatic pain?

surgery, as you know, is not a silver bullet. if the nerve is injured permanently, surgery won't repair that. typical options include meds (baclofen, lyrica, etc; not narcotics) and perhaps spinal cord stimulator. hope you get relief. that a pain people can't respect until they live it.

Just took an imaging class and learned how to implement CT and other transmission tomography schemes, among many other things. CT makes pretty pictures, especially when you reconstruct the image cumulatively slice by slice. Radon Transform for life.

My latest neurosurgeon had some nerve conduction tests and said it looked normal, gave some antiinflamitory drugs and that's it.

I've been on Lyrica before and it made me feel like I has MS. Shaking, dropped stuff, clumsy, and depressed. Didn't stop all the pain either.

Gabapentin was okay, but only before sleep.

Moved recently and the new doctors think I'm just finding for drugs, despite I've been disabled out of work for a year and have scars, mris, etc.

Feel like giving up.

all of it: MRI, CT, XR, US

>>684351324
not likely a stroke, anon, but it could be what's called cervical radiculopathy. an exiting nerve can be pinched when you put your neck in certain positions (try putting the ear to your shoulder like you are holding a phone on the left). stretching is a good first step but if it gets worse, see your doc

>>684351331

>>684351387
could be. but they may have some structural defect (the nature of which we don't yet know) that predisposes them to it. i'm guessing it's a little of both

nah, don't give up, anon. fuck that shit. too much good stuff out there to experience. you need to find the recipe that works for you. i typically suggest people figure out what they like doing physically (sports/run/walk/hike/whatever) and do that. do that as much as you can. start slow and build. it's not a solution, but it can be a good supplement to the meds. be wary of more surgery and avoid narcs like the plague. hope you get some relief

>MRI
Now that shit is some crazy^2. CT is intuitive like casting shadows. MRI (or as physicist say, NMR) is pretty much an engineering marvel that draws from all sorts of great weird ideas (super conductivity, quantum spin). It's nuts the same machine can be used with dozens of imaging techniques by simply tweaking how spins are excited and indexed to glean different information from scans.

>>684352618
You don't see the difference? It's worse than we thought.
>>
>>684352261
Exploding Head Syndrome is something that you can experience a few times in your life, never experience it, or experience it regularly.

It only happens to me when I'm overtired and forcing myself to stay up, and just as as I start drifting off I'll "hear" a really loud noise such as an airhorn, siren, gunshot, or even really loud laughter, and it jolts me awake. Other people also experience a bright flash of light along with the auditory hallucinations, and with some of them it actually wakes them up while they are sleeping. If you want more info you can check out the wikipedia page but that's the basics of it.

Like I said it only happens when I'm extremely tired and drift into sleep while trying to force myself to stay awake. With others in happens while they are sleeping. The running theme appears to be sleep here.

shit, I get that all the time. I think it started after I did shrooms for a month straight.

Mine sound like a deep and powerful 'whoomp' and happens at least a few times a week.

Oh and I also have severe tinnitus in one ear, might have something to do with it. If one ear is to the pillow, or otherwise unable to hear what the effected ear hears, the blocked ear rumbles and clicks as the unblocked ear hears sound, in real time.

sounds like your having some bladder issues, maybe some saddle anesthesia. if there is no compressive process on MRI, like a big disc or an abscess or a hematoma, then there is no clear structural explanation for the problem that would respond to surgical decompression. other neurologic shit can cause what you are going through, but surgery won't fix it. hope you get it sorted, anon.

can't believe I used the wrong "affect", fuck me. Anyway, forgot to mention that the tinnitus probably came from sitting next to a 250 watt powered subwoofer for a few years, and I played loud music often. It was literally in my face off to the side by a foot.

after they had found me they took me to A hospital (i am 100% unconcious, and i dont remember any of it)

So the Neuroscience Dept at Imperial just published a paper of the effects of LSD on the brain, concluding that the substance had an overall positive effect on the subjects. In addition, a recent study by the Norwegian University of Technology and Science colcluded that LSD, Psilocybin, and Mescaline have no negative long term effects, and are not linked to mental health problems.

So generally, in the academic and wider neurological world, what is the general concensus on psychedellic drugs, and would you agree that they should be legalised?

Yeah. Bladder issues. It basically stopped working. The sphincter muscle is the only thing that keeps me from pudding all over myself. I have been sitting to piss since the beginning of the year. Uro has given me 5mg cialis daily to shrink prostate. I have bulged disks on L4-L5, and L5-S1. My tailbone hurts like fire. Its been this way for about three years. The bladder problems only since last summer.

It's all really fucking depressing.

Fuck. Gave the disc to the urologist since a cyst on my kidney showed up on one of the scans. They do bulge out, but to the left. When I first hurt them, I was told u wasn't a candidate for surgery. Now years later, I have gone through physical therapy until the therapists said "we can't fix you", saw a chiropractor until I got the same response. I dislike narcotics, so I take Ultram, and I was getting steroid injections. I never got relief for my tailbone though. Not ever. It sounded like after all these years, they might be more willing to operate.

Here is what I wonder: when my mother and brother had their surgeries, things were a lot worse than the scans showed. Could I be suffering for a pinched nerve in the sacrum that isn't showing up on a scan? Or is than just totally unlikely?

the thing to remember, anon, is that you can always find someone to operate on you (for a price). sad but true. if anyone offers the knife, get a second or third opinion that agrees before going forward. the reason is that you need to weigh the risks and the benefits. surgery's got risks, no shit. but if there is no benefit to speak of, why subject yourself to it? tailbone pain, without radiation down the legs (radiculopathy), is a tough one. there are some snake oil salesmen that will talk a big game and act like they can help you. don't let your pain cloud your judgement and lead you to make a regrettable decision. hope it works out, anon. sounds like a shitty situation.
