It's not team fortress 2, it's team fortress 3. There are similarities in playstyle obviously (payload, king of the hill, etc.,) but since you're looking at more than twice as many characters in ow then you are in tf, they are by no means the same game by that alone. Plus, the graphics are wonderfully well done, ultimates make the game even more interesting than it already is, marketing system is very reasonable (only thing sold are cosmetic chests which can also be earned by just playing the game,) and all those little bits blizzard adds (lines, sounds, interactable scenery, etc) really add up to make gameplay so much better than it already is.

While this game could arguably have more depth simply because there's a larger character roster, when it comes down to it they play completely differently. TF2 is rooted deeply in old school style high speed twitch fps like Quake, the game that spawned the TF mod. Overwatch on the other hand is a fps influenced very mildly by mobas, no minions or levels, but cool-downs on abilities and adding more characters rather than more items for existing characters; which I like in a lot of ways. But you wont even need the same kind of extreme precision in Overwatch that you do in games like TF2, it's more about the team coordination (before you get mad at me team COMPOSITION is more important in TF2 than coordination), timing, and game-sense in general. Both have their pros and cons and both are good in their own rights.

I played the beta, and I never really enjoyed dirty bomb or tf2, but I absolutely loved overwatch. sixty bucks is a little pricy, but it is especially fun with a party of people you know. Also surprisingly for such a new game it is pretty well balanced between the characters with some minor exceptions which im sure they will fix. I would definitely give it a chance, and see for yourself.

HoN came out with a year and is dead. Dota 2 is doing well with it's player base but LoL still eclipses it.

Blizzard has an exceptionally shit reputation in doing esports well, so unless they start funneling money into the scene like riot did there is no chance it even gets close.

If you play on PC, which if you are comparing this game to tf2, you do, because console tf2 is and always was aids. Therefore cost wise, it will at least set you back 40$, the 60$ edition is only if you want some dumb bnet perks and skins, 90% of which look uninspiring.

Now, claiming this game is a tf2 clone is much like calling counter strike a call of duty search and destroy clone.
Currently most tf2 servers focus on having fuck tons of people all playing on a certain map all day, maybe you get a server with a rotation, but usually you're looking at 20-30 minutes between map changes. Overwatch is different, and in my opinion better, because you have faster paced matches with smaller team sizes, making the game faster paced and team composition much more important (barring some of the stupid compositions that have yet to be nerfed/adjusted). Furthermore, while 9 classes is a pretty good pool, I feel that the 19 classes overwatch has makes the gameplay far more dynamic and interesting as a player, and I think for the most part the devs have done a great job at making the classes feel unique.

But most importantly I think the most welcomed features are no random crit, some retard can't kill you because XD CRIT ROCKET, and no God DAMNED inventory system, as an early tf2 player who bought the orangebox on launch, I felt that the game immediately spiraled into cancer once the inventory system and additional weapons were added.

And they nerf the old weapons so only the new ones are remotely viable. It's garbage. I used to play a ton when it first came out. I only played Heavy and the Deci was amazing. Played it quite a lot during the beta period..

For consoles? Don't bother. It's never going to really be worth it.

For PC it's worth it but I wouldn't pay more than 20$ for it. It's not a bad game, has pretty great character design/animation and feels a lot better (though also less arcadey?) than TF2.

The game is overpriced but it's still a good title FOR PC.
