So, this is my first time growing. I have this temporary 75w LED light set up until they mature a little more, and then I'm moving them out into a field in the woods. I have 16 plants that sprouted, 2 from random bags Ive gotten, and 5 Sativa's Sour Diesel and 9 randoms from Nirvana seeds. My only concern is that because I live in central MN, my growing season will be too short. Any tips for a successful outdoor grow for my climate?

>>
>>684049411
Why did you remove a few leafs from the one in the front left?
>>
>>684049411
Put them in a area that will get enough sunlight
>>
>>684050031
That's just vitamin /b/, are your plants showing signs that would indicate a lackthereof?
>>
sorry mate your plants are shit as of right now. lower ur goddamned lights before those bastards keel over n die
>>
>>684050148
Ive heard that trimming the fan leaves off can help it in growing, but maybe it's too young still?
>>
Uk 420 has all the info u need
>>
>>684050323
I just set the light up yesterday, before they were sunbathing in a window, but they weren't getting nearly enough light. Ill lower the light a bit
>>
>>684050352
I wouldn't advise ever doing that again. It's like removing half of the solar panels on your house.
>>
>>684050352
That is when the buds are developing and you are only recommended to cut lower leaves and branches that arent really getting any light or are so small that they will not amount to anything. right now you want as many fan leaves as possible because they are what is collecting whatever little bit of light you are giving them
>>
>>684050313
yeah they got kinda sick on me when i transplanted them. I have one more that needs a transplant and i looked online that this helps the roots get back to a healthy level.
>>
>>684050352
yeah dont do that
>>
>>684050641
I suppose that makes sense lol
>>
>>684050794
I find that the best time to transplant is right after a good watering. Helps reduce the stress.
>>
>>684051046
Sometimes i like to wait until the soil starts to dry when transplanting just in case its not entirely root bound and when the soil is dry it comes out in a cake easier
>>
>>684051046
hmm i did not know that. how long do i wait after watering them to transplant ?

Not the greatest setup but its a start and im proud of you for starting a grow. I am a outdoor grower as well.
>>
>>684051327
Well, that's why you're plants look all fucked up, lol - Give them a good water, let the soil drain, and then put your hand on the surface of the dirt, thumb around the base of the plant, just flip it upside down and with the other hand pull the bucket off
>>
>>684051412
>>684051481
If you have good drainage (aka perlite), not long. Just let the soil drain and then transplant 15-30 minutes later.
>>
>>684051673
Lmao those are not my plants, if they were i would be debating if i should throw them out and just start a new batch or not. I would love to be starting my outdoor plants right now but unfortunately i have had bad problems with thieves over the past few years and my only spot to grow is blown. So i gave up on growing for now
>>
>>684051862
cool, im using ocean forest and it has a bit of it.

Nope, he has it right, the red gives it away.

not really. i think as long as u have good strains just feed them and keep it simple.
>>
>>684054686
nah man i dont do drugs that's too 90's i eat healthy and fuck bitches
>>
>>684054815
Agreed, just keep the plant healthy and give it plenty of light, and don't over complicate it. You'll stress yourself and the plants out. The plant will tell you what it wants based on the colors of the leafs
>>
>>684054373
anyone ?
>>
>>684055029
I do all 3, it's 2016
>>
>>684054686
Also, you put accidentally put the reflective side of the foil facing the opposite way.
>>
>>684055199
So how many hours a day should I have that light on?
>>
>>684051046
Troll post. It's 100x easier to wait until they are dry so it will all come out together.
And Jesus like everyone else is saying, those are stretched as fuck. All of that energy is being wasted on stretching for the light instead of actually growing. You're honestly better off starting from scratch.
>>
>>684055389
No trust me the shiniest side is facing in all around, other side is not as bright.
>>
>>684055506
16-24 hours
>>
>>684055528
No way I'm starting over, the small ones literally just sprouted 4 days ago
>>
>>684054373
Always start will a little and look for visual signs from the plant that you're doing okay. Never "feed" when the soil is dry. Water the plants a few hours before feeding. Test soil's PH
>>684055506
16-18 hours

Of the soil? There is no normal, there only is. Each plant prefers different ph levels. Most cannabis thrives in 5.5 to 7 ph, it will vary.

I'm skipping all previous discussion. So I'll try to make this as concise as possible. First off, go into this assuming that at least half your plants will not make it. Out of 16 you'll probably have 6-10 that reach maturity. Of those, you've got a further 50-50 of them being male. Genetics can't be helped (unless you've bought feminized seeds, then disregard that). Your males will probably need to be disposed of unless you're trying to breed, which I doubt.

Now, the LED is great for getting started, but I don't think growing outdoors in Minnesota is wise. You really need to get a 300 watt HPS (high pressure sodium) bulb and ballast. Get one with reflectors, these bulbs are massive. When you see the vegetative state really start to take off is when you need to make the switch. Otherwise you risk stunting your growth.

Now, there's a lot of hullabaloo about hydroponics, and it's cool, but for your first time all you really need is some soil, pots, and plant food. Make sure you give each plant a big enough space to be in full development by the time it's root bound, otherwise stunting can come into play again. Elsewise, simply work on a 12-12 system of lights on/lights off and give your plant enough water throughout the day to ensure the soil is moist throughout, and add plant food every 7-14 days (I use miracle-gro granules every 7 days at a ratio of 1 tablespoon to gallon of water and just continue until the jug/canister is empty).

I can't assure that you'll get mad dank buds the first time, but you'll get a feel for the basics and that's really what you need to be concerned with your first time. Hope this helps.
>>
>>684058852
To be clear, when I say keep your plants moist throughout the day, I refer to the period of lights on. If you keep your soil moist 24/7 you'll get root rot fast.
>>
>>684057774
Good call.
>>
>>684059450
Not on the buy part though. This is 2016, remember that. Find that shit on Google real quick.
>>
>>684058852
Thanks for all that man. The 5 Sativa's Sour Diesel are fem, so I'm banking on them to be my best shot at a good crop. So out of the 11 randoms half are hopefully females. I can't continue the grow indoors, as I don't have enough space to grow multiple inside. I'm hoping that if I plant them at the right time, they will have 3 full summer months to achieve maturity, and its an open area so sunlight shouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>684049411
That's a lot of stretching haha
One solution could be tying down the stalks so it bends sideways and bring your lights in real close. It will trigger epicormic shoots, especially on that one that you chopped the leaves off of for whatever reason (technically stress does sort of cause more growth, but only in the sense that it triggers regrowth. So it grows back what it lost only, and it's a net loss in energy)
>>
Anyone use fluorescent tubes? Fluorescent vs led?
>>
>>684060026
Yeah, the bigger 2 were deprived of sunlight for a little. Epicormic shoots? Care to elaborate?
>>
whats that thing called where you trim a bit of a branch and it splits into two branches? did it on my last plants but i forget what its called and exactly where to cut
>>
>>684060603
It's dormant node cells that get triggered upon stress. I believe they haven't quite figured out the exact science as to how they work, but plants have a limited quantity of them and it's triggered by stress. Pruning, fires, wind damage, etc. all trigger epicormic shoots that form from the center outward of any branch.
Usually it occurs at an already existing node that has been pruned (usually one on each side of the old node for most plants)

It's a regrowth mechanism plants have, but it's kind of finicky. It's usually something you see on trees, but it works with marijuana as well. Actually some people have little bonzai trees of pot plants for that very reason.
When I worked on a tree farm we could propagate trees by chopping large sections of another tree off and burning them with a propane torch or simply beating the shit out of it with a wooden plank and it would trigger root growth and new shoots right out of the center of the branch.
>>
>>684061969
You cut about 1 inch away from the node (where it splits off)
>>
>>684064353
whats it called breh?
