Well since the chain wielder will obviously be trained in that weapon I assumed the knife user would also be a trained fighter.

Under such circumstances the knife fighter will keep his weapon hand back and use his open arm as a defense. What this means is if he can get your chain wrapped around his unarmed arm then you are at a disadvantage because your weapon is disabled while the knife is still usable.

Anyway like I said before how would you defend against a charge by a knife wielding assailant who simply seeks to tackle you and stab you to death? This is the main strategy to knife fighting.

Personally I like button and slide safeties too. I own one of the 1911s by Ruger and I personally don't find flipping the thing down to be any trouble. The grip safety on the back isn't too bad, but I still am not too particularly fond of it.
