I always carry a karambit or similar for the sheer utility and for self defense.
We have pretty strict knife laws here and the only way you're allowed to carry one is if it's an essential tool in your line of work and accompanied by a work uniform.

After an incident on the bus in which I got confused with another man who had threatened people, I got searched by the police.
They asked me if I was carrying anything I sharp and I calmly and respectfully told them I was carrying a knife on my belt.
One of the officers told me, like I didn't know already, that I was not allowed to carry a knife. I told him that I respectfully disagree as I felt I should have the right to defend myself if I ever was attacked.
A 10 minute discussion followed on the subject of self defense and philosophy. The officer told me that he agrees in spirit, but that he had to confiscate the knife and report me. I told him that while I do not agree I respect that he had to do his job.

2 weeks later I get a letter in the mail where they inform me that the investigation against me was dropped. I called to get clarification and the clerk told me that the reason the charges was dropped was because the knife had magically disappeared.

Felt good man.
