This is probably stupid to say but if you applied for a job in chicago, you could probably go to their office and schedule an appointment or ask to speak with the recruiter. I'm not sure how google handles that, whether its from the local office or if they do it all from their HQ

I agree, the way the companies do things now is really shitty. I hate having to know somebody and needing to have six internships, previous experience in the industry all for an entry level position.

I feel like getting a job right out of college is one of those things that everyone wants but not everyone can get for one reason or another. Sometimes its the market sometimes its just bad luck.
But I know you'll figure it out and do everything you want.
