I worked in a machine shop since I was 14, every day after school. During 10th grade year, I took machine shop in school. That school was fucking horrible, so the teacher let me ditch class to go work. Every day I'd leave that class and go work at the shop. I hardly went to school throughout 11th and 12th grade, but I graduated and then went to work full time. Around the age 25-26 I started my own little niche company in that machine shop, and paid the owner to let me run my business out of it. It got to the point where I was paying that guy more than I was making, and I worked my ass off for him and myself combined. So I told him I wanted to be paid $80,000 a year with benefits. He paid it because he needed me, but I eventually figured I could be making more. So, I started my own shop, bought a decent CNC lathe, and got a loan for a decent CNC mill. After I paid those off, I made 1 million in 3 years, but barely went home to see my kids. I just kept upgrading my shop until I am where I'm at now.

You also really need to be smarter with your money. Keep hobbies at bay for now. You don't need to do what I do to get this money, hell, a lawn care business can make you $80k in a year. Just take a saturday evening, maybe with a friend, and brainstorm different ways you can start making money. I knew the easiest way for me to make money was to apply what I already knew and was experienced in, which was machining. And that got me pretty far with just myself.

It's weird, kind of like how most kids wanted to be badass or some kind of soldier, I wanted to be the best at a job. The best way to achieve that is to take work home, and make it your hobby or one of them. Make the tools of your trade part of that hobby. For instance, I am part of many machinist forums and I love to collect and use the best tools out there for machinists, such as Mitutoyo calipers and mics.
