I work in film, if I was making this movie for a purely Asian audience I would use an all asian cast, however this is an international film to be screened all over the world. It needs an actor that is instantly recognizable all over the world and generally well liked.

The production company has invested upwards of 100 million into this movie. By casting ScarJo they basically guarantee 50% or so of that budget back, something they couldn't do by casting ZhingLeeFortuneCookie, this is just smart business, something SJW's don't understand.

On top of that, showed the SJW hypocrisy. Everyone who complained when the Human Torch from Fantastic Four was cast as a black guy was called a racist, and the SJW's discounted the "Be true to the source material" as just an excuse for racism.

Then this came out and they all bitch that it should be an asian because we need to be true to the source material. just one more of the thousands of examples of the SJW belief that racism is fine as long as white people are on he receiving end.

I don't really think that's it though. We love Monty Python, the Harry Potter series, Top Gear, and quite a few other British films or TV series. I never really saw asian features in most anime characters to begin with. Casting a white person for anime is a non issue to me. She's decent enough to pull it off, it really depends on how solid everything else is. Considering I'm fucking pissed that Idris Elba plays Roland in "The Dark Tower" series by Steven King and won't even give the movies a chance because of this even though I fucking loved the books I think it's a kinda gay decision. The thing about shit like this that's the most retarded is that 99% of the time, the ethnicity of a character in a story is determined by where the story takes place, and where the story takes place is determined by where the writer is from. This means that the race of a character is almost always completely arbitrary.

If Ghost in the Shell had been created by a white dude, she would have been white to begin with and it wouldn't have changed the story one single bit.

Stop worrying about what fucking race the characters are and worry about whether or not the story is good/true to the source material.

Fucking people lose sight of what actually matters so easily.

Never saw that version of Nick fury either, but race swapping the comic character just seems like the same premise as recasting just with an extra step.

Personally I don't care about race swapping either (as long as they're well cast and aren't just shoeforning in identity politics for cheap publicity eg. the new ghostbusters) I just expect people to be consistent about their outrage. And the only consistency you ever see is whether swapping to white or swapping from white is the trigger. And that's just racism.

There seems to be an odd double standard where a characters race is only important if not white. A white charcter has no race, and it's perfectly reasonable to change it, but say a black character who's race is never part of the plot... somehow it's whitewashing if you don't cast him black. Or the inverse scenario if the political bias of the person being outraged leans in the other direction.
