I think Tyrion & John are going to play very important roles in the future of the series. Tyrion will be one of Daenerys's dragon riders because he's small. He'll ride the smallest dragon that wouldn't be able to carry a large man.

It's funny how this whole thing revealed itself - GRRM knew from the beginning that he was going to have 3 Fire People with Dragons fight the White Walkers (who also have 3 kings), and all he had to do then was separate them, then work in this whole get-up to essentially rejoin them to fight a major battle. Inside that story, he could invent anyone he wanted and kill them off - playing up the readers emotions that any one character could be "the one" when all along, he spun the 3 main characters off to the farthest reaches of his mythical world.

I like the concept of knowing the ending of a story before you start writing because you can then lay it out in a linear fashion but make it look non-linear with lots of forks which go no where.
