Anyhow, natural selection ensures that animals adapt to their environment, ones that do that the best survive.

If an ancient wolf had traits like a poodel or a spaniel and survives opposed to a wolf who doesn't survive, then over time the wolf with poodel/spaniel traits evolves into a full spaniel or poodel and that will live on in that region.

In other regions, other traits make life more suitable, hence the many breeds of dogs today. Also, since 200 years selective breeding and mixing breeds has influenced this alot, so there's that

the dogs were bred. Humans do that by picking out what they like and not what is fit for survival. Pudels and other small dogs often need surgery because their bodies arent fit for a long or fullfilled life. Breeding dogs is actually disgusting af if you think about it

Exactly, this is also what led to the agressive nature of pitbulls, unfortunately.

Luckily, that process is being reversed now, and pitbulls are slowly becoming more and more friendly, much the same as any other dog breed. Usually if a dog is agressive it is either trying to be dominant, or insecure. Dominant dogs are fairly easy to train and will not harm you but will correct you if you do something they don't agree with. Most dogs who bite are not vicious, because if they were they could bite your hand of easily, yet they don't

Weather is actually a whole lot more difficult to predict than most things. if we wanted to be 100% sure about every prediction about the weather we would need to know how every single air particle on earth is going to move, and let's face it - we don't have that sort of technology. thats a metric tonne of variables. on the other hand something like carbon or argon dating is very consistent and we can test it by speeding up the reactions that are going on. it comes down to the amount of variables at play.
>>681132480
That's just blatant racism. there is nothing in our DNA that correlates skin colour to tendency for crime. your environment has a far higher influence on your behaviour than other factors at play.

the ark really couldn't have been that big anyway. wooden ships have size limits and after a certain point the ark would have leaked and sank. it would have begun bending at the middle because wood isnt that strong of a material, not to mention it was also somehow built by untrained carpenters. modern ships that are smaller than the ark have to built out of steel to survive the oceans let alone a world-consuming storm. also fine, supposing they got the eggs there, how did they restart all the species in the world from 1 of each animal? incest between animals? because thats what scientists think the cheetahs did (that is why they all look so similar) and theyre not doing so well, let alone doing that for millions of species. also, how did they regulate temperature and food for all of these different animals? did they have a savannah section and a snowy section? it doesnt make much sense.

Historically the original bible was written by Jews who were about to be killed off/exiled. They gathered their best intellects and compiled a history of the Jewish people and the world as far as they knew it. Not a literal history. It was intended to be easily understood by the masses and was written so people would have at least a vague idea of what really happened.

Season 3 of Empires on Amazon Prime focuses on the early Jewish history and goes over it in detail if you actually want to know the historical context

I don't understand what that picture is trying to convey(it probably is based on some very wrong assumption what evolution is) but dogs were not selected in the sense of natural selection(survival of the fittest) but they were bred by humans to fit their role as watch dog, hunting dog, shepherd dog etc. Also dog races didn't "evolve" from one race to another like the picture is trying to say.

>That's just blatant racism. there is nothing in our DNA that correlates skin colour to tendency for crime. your environment has a far higher influence on your behaviour than other factors at play.

>there is nothing in our DNA that correlates skin colour to tendency for crime

Are you sure about that? And by sure, I mean do you have a source to back that up and not just something bill nye or someone else said on a youtube video once? Not that I don't trust bill nye. But even he has to respect people that want evidence.

Plus, you are making the issue very specific when you say skin color. The same genes that code for skin color might be similar in many different people and not correlate to crimes, but that doesn't account for the fact that some ethnic groups do happen to commit more crimes than others. It would be interesting to see a study done on this, but I'm betting it would be a hard one to fund.

Also, research in genetics is in its infancy. Just because the human genome has been mapped, doesn't mean anyone actually understands it. The only way people come close is through trial and error, and that's not entirely effective.... I mean, fuck, people have been trying to manipulate the dna of chickens to create dinosaurs for a while now and that hasn't worked out super well so far.

tl;dr I'm willing to bet anything it's a mix of heritable traits(dna) and a shitty culture.

some ethnic groups having higher crime rates correlates to their environment. people in Africa have higher crime rates not because they're black but because Africa is a shithole. Western Europe has some of the lowest murder rates yet white people in South Africa murdered millions. its environment, not DNA. these studies are rather numerous, and although they rarely specify on race specifically it is touched on. its essentially the nature vs nurture debate.

sure, we dont fully understand the genome and it is very complicated. such a significant correlation would have likely been noticed by now and outside of that the amount of melanin in your skin doesnt really have much of an effect on how you should behave. If it did you would notice albino people in India or whatever having distinctly different behaviour to their standard counterparts.

I don't actually understand what the person is trying to say about natural selection, or how they came to think this way

Are they trying to say that animals naturally 'devolve'? I can't think of any good reason why they would think this, that's not how natural selection works at all

are they also implying that poodles are somehow evolutionarily inferior or something, or that they are a later breed of dog? wtf is going in this picture, how does the cartoonist function in everyday life

>>
>>681131961
But... dogs are the product of selective breeding, there is hardly anything natural about them.

Also things like ring species, fossils, genetics, and over a century of reserch and evidence prove evolution.

It's such a dumb argument.

>>
>>681135176
Correlation does not equal causation, even though I think that it is a major factor.

But at the same time. I think there are many factors. One being genetics.

For example, when people live in tribal societies in areas with little resources, they almost always resort to raiding to get what they need. That does not mean that there are no heritable traits among those people that make them more or less likely to take up raiding. It just means that they have an excuse to be doing it.

The difficult part with humans is our genetic bottleneck that's basically made us one of the least diverse species. It's easy to look at our genome and say "we're all the same and there aren't any marked differences between race!" but it's an unfounded claim made by idealists.
>>
>>681131961
Evolution = Change over time
That is all, there is no 'race to the end', nor 'forwards, backwards, less than, or more than something else'
In fact the story of the dog, as we now know it is quite interesting, The wolves with the least aggression, and most affection received the most attention from humans, being fed more scraps and surviving longer to reproduce, thus the most advantageous traits where fine tuned, and anti social traits weeded out as part of a natural equilibrium to a changing environment.

no, the genetic difference between people who are physically near by is very very very small because their populations have been interbreeding for ages. By this I mean a person in Germany for instance will have very similar genes to someone in Russia because throughout history these populations have not been isolated. Yet, their behaviour is astronomically different and their behaviour changes over time too. A German in the 1940s had very different behaviour a Russian of the 1940s and different behaviour to a modern day German. Their genetics could not have changed enough throughout this time to have caused any behavioural change.
This largely applies across continents too. if there is any causation of genetics that also affects race and changes our behaviour it must be extremely extremely small. the nature vs nurture debate is ongoing but is very largely agreed upon.
>>

>>681136222
Yes, to a point. There's certain challenges, because you have to ask if man cam from pond scum, at what point did man have a soul, and did mutant pond scum matter to God or not.
So there is a challenge there of sorts. I don't really have a problem with the origin of the universe, the Bible doesn't give many details about the timeline of the creation of earth/man/garden of eden, what have you.

Mostly I don't give it much thought, because it genuinely doesn't concern me, or what I need to do in my life.

More like human selection rather than natural selection
>>

Yep. You shouldn't really be surprised that people use religion as a shield from reality. The same ones usually advocate wars against Islam, or how Israel is somehow exempt from the morals that stop most states from committing sustained genocide

Dogs did not undergo natural selection
>>
>>681136643
Fucking enablers, saying "all of us aren't like that" when anything goes wrong, even though it's their same fucking religion that influenced this person. He read the same shit you did
>so? i'm not like that
so? you don't need it in the first place.
>>
>>681131961
well those tiny dogs are adapted to live in tiny apartments aren't they?
for me that is evolution
>>
>>681136398
But they are differentiated by culture and those cultures could have an influence over the way populations reproduce.

Also, you are talking about timescales that wouldn't have much of an impact on a species if we are only talking about macroevolution. A couple thousand years might not be enough to create an entirely different species, but it's more than enough time for microevolutionary traits to appear.

I'll use domestic dogs as an example since they are easy. Even though, admittedly, they have way much more genetic diversity to work with than humans. With dogs though, they exhibit a wide range of temperaments and physical characteristics, and that's from a relatively short amount of time with selective breeding. Even though it's not necessarily forced selective breeding with humans, like I said before, the culture you belong to can influence the kind of people you have kids with.

It's perfectly logical to think that if you can breed a dog to be a nasty asshole in a few generations, you can also do that people people over more generations simply because being a nasty asshole might be seen as more assertive, or it more correlate with other favorable traits and just hitch along for a ride.

Just because something gets "smaller" doesn't mean it's not evolving. Dinosaurs died out because they couldn't thrive in the environment anymore, while small mammals excelled. Isn't this fucking obvious to people? You know what, you're a real dumb shit OP.

>He read the same shit you did
You are vastly overestimating a lot of people. History is littered with examples of people following a religious leader rather than investigating the text for themselves. If you're American, you could probably figure that out from watching the news for five minutes

>so? you don't need it in the first place.
What do you need, anon? Pretty sure the influence of religion on my life has been generally positive
>although I am on /b/ so there's that

They say there are no atheists in the foxhole.

Even fewer when death is certain.

None once the final curtain falls.

God’s Word declares, “The fool hath said in his heart ‘there is no God'” (Psalm 14).
>>
The point of the picture is that selection, whether natural or manmade, decreases information / makes things weaker.
Evolution requires an increase of info
Selection we have proof of, we can see it happen in front of our eyes. For evolution we have no proof

Dog breeds aren't natural selection tho.
Humans did that it's pure artifice.

It's splitting hairs, but
Evolution = Change over time
Wolves, and dogs for that matter, changed to suit environmental pressures, human company being one, the more social and handsome dogs where given favor to succeed and reproduce, and pass those traits to their offspring. - Humans being part of the natural world, one can't really make an argument that the wolves did not simply react to a changing environment, as do all things.
>>
>>681131961
Nature created wolves, we created dogs. Nothing about this contradicts the theory of evolution and its explanatory power for the origin of species.

and op is still a fag

yeah ive had a few cats. i think they must have evolved too make humans want to take care of them. survival strategy
