F-22 is on part with anything flying in a dog fight. Of thousands of training dog fights against the best pilots in the best jets, the F-22 has only lost like 4 times. Trick is, the F-22 and F-35 won't let anything get close. Stealth + passive radar means opponents are eating missiles without ever picking up who fired them.

The F-35 can match anything in its class, which is a light fighter (f-16, f/a-18a-d, mig-29). It is not designed to be an air superority fighter like the f-22, so no, it can't handle a SU-27 close in.

I don't see the point of deploying F-22s (or F-35s for that matter) to vaporize sand niggers. I think fighters like the Typhoon/Rafale/upgraded Su-35s are all capable in practice. Plus I have serious doubts about what radar tech can do to counter stealth....as in stealth isn't as special as you all think it is. It'd probably easier to engineer something to detect rather than to evade. I bet jammers are more effective than stealth air frames but that's just me speculating bullshit I know nothing about. Take away stealth and the most capable and advanced airframe currently is the F/A-18E/F. Nothing compares in mission capabilities and weapons loadouts. On top of being carrier capable (Although that does limit loiter time, top speed, and range) and with a LEX design that gives the hornet a massive low speed advantage in dogfights, and the best radar system in any aircraft. until the F-35 finally works nothing will ever come close to the hornet. The days of dogfighting are over, and if ever pressed into a situation the Hornet is completely capable of holding its own.

Canadafag here. I was PISSED when the previous PM Harper did an end run around proper procurement procedure (which is already a clusterfuck) to go all in on the F-35. There were bids for Super Hornet, the Eurofighter Typhoon, and Saab, and one really tempting offer from Dassault to not only provide the fighters, but also set up plants in Canada so we could produce replacement parts ourselves; the savings in logistical support alone (plus JOBS) would be a godsend. Hell, they offered to give us the SOFTWARE SOURCE CODE for the platform, so we could rewrite and modify it to meet our needs.

It's a goddamn travesty that we're getting these hanger queens instead.

Australia should have gone to Putin for a plane that had range to get to Indonesia and back without refueling. But no, they decided to go to the Yanks for yet another money pit of a plane.

Canada won't buy F-22's.

That really should be the plane we buy though.

People will shit bricks if they find out what one of those cost.
We would be like Ethiopia. We would buy 5 and downsize all forces yet again.

best plane ever made

What if Canada bought the latest Su-35s (it'll never happen). They have a longer range than the super hornets, radar is probably close enough, longer reaching air-air missiles...in any case, F-35 is the worst choice for a country like Canada. Single engine, tiny range.

that you know off.... Take the U2 or F117A they were a secret for 10 years + before going public
>>
can I just say that the best operational plane is without a doubt the C-17 globemaster. That thing is a masterpiece

Yes. They're very good killing machines, congratulations.

well considering the annual military expenditure, I wouldn't at all be surprised if they had something up their sleeve
