I actually drove a train with passengers once. I was with my uncle who is kind of a crazy train buff and we went to a tourist railroad in the southern USA on a slow day and he and I ended up chatting it up with the engineer beforehand and so he offered we take our trip in the cab of the loco instead of in a car. Which was pretty cool. During this, the engineer let me sit in his seat but I wasn't allowed to touch the throttle.
