I've been struggling with overwhelming negative feelings for around 8 years now. It isn't every day and I've generally hidden it. My career has gone really well in the last 4 years and it hasn't improved my emotional state at all. 3 weeks ago I started taking a low dose of citalopram (10mg) and I've never felt closer to suicide than I do tonight. The only thing calming me down is that I know that when you start, it can make things worse before making it better (such a low dose though...).

There's another drug that I've been taking for about 4 years which has genuinely helped me manage- cocodamol (30/500). The paracetamol is terrible for my liver but I'd say it's actually the reason I've been able to get a career going (I'm 28. I was 24 before I got my first real job). If I could just get codeine it might help more but tbh, I've limited myself pretty well to 2 cocodamol per day (when I get home from work, so I sleep well). On rare occasions I'll take 2 with lunch but I avoid that as much as possible.If I did have pure codeine I might not be so restrictive with myself... so maybe it's for the best. Sometimes you really just need something that can cheer you up and calm you down in the moment.

I stopped taking 375mg Effexor about a year ago. It really 'worked' for me, as in it helped with my anxiety and I didn't really feel down that often. It helped with my social, love, and educational life. However it also made me into a proper shitcunt. I was really callous and cruel at times and pretty reckless in regards to my own health, taking stupid risks driving, picking fights with people that ended up kicking my ass. Also I was having pretty shit sex due to finishing maybe 2/5 times.

However since I quit, I've become more and more anxious and reclusive, my social life is gone and my education is in danger due to low attendance.

I'm considering going back onto Effexor and, well.. I basically wanna ask people's opinions on whether they think Effexor can actually do what I thought it did for me? It could have all been in my head, but my psych just recently pointed out to me that the beginning of my recent reclusiveness started only a couple of months after I dropped Effexor.
