I think for litter pals, a more effective design would be more like am asian-style drop toilet: a hole in the floor that the good fluffie poops into. The litter pal is confined in a small space below and survives off the good fluffies (and it's own) pee and poop. It's kept out of sight, the toilet never needs emptying and you don't have to listen to the litter pal whining about how hard done by it is all day.

the litterpal was actually meant only for analingus and cleaning out the back fur, not to be shit on directly, but owners who were trying to take care of several animals tend to just let the pecking order take it's course. so the entire litterpal is placed on a ceramic tile over a grate so the area can just be hosed down, or in the center of the litter box. most of them have their vocal cords and teeth removed.

The Hasbio language programming process was a stroke of genius on the part of their genetic engineers. Had fluffies started at the same level of our human children in the language department, we might have treated them as intelligences to be protected and cherished, despite their many, very human faults.
