I am a grandchild/nephew. I told them to stop taking shit from here, and leave it because its not right to start dismantling a house that is not theres. It was a serious talk. But in the end, the "will" is going to be in there hands most likely, 3 siblings. And plan to sell the property because nobody would visit enough to make it worth upkeeping. To be fair, a lot goes into a place like this. Property tax, and time to keep the grounds are enough reason for them to sell.
It really sucks, all I can do is visit and cherish I guess. I will try and have some say, and they respect my opinion, but it is about money, like fucking everything these days.....

Just this past fall and Winter (I live in Minnesota), I got to see the sunrise pretty much every day.
I've got a shit 7-3:30 part time job, but waking up to that and watching the world slowly get brighter helped a lot, especially when I was up at 1AM to plow snow.

I think last year my family went down to Pensacola, Florida, renting out another family's house.
They had property on the shore of a lagoon, and I somehow taught myself to netcast. Spent hours practicing and actually kinda got it down, all the while the warm sun and air thawed the chill of home.

My grandparents have some land on a lake North of Mille Lacs.
It's kinda tucked away from the rest of the surrounding towns, down a dirt road. The water of the lake is clean enough to drink, though probably not all the time. It's smooth, too, like some sort of liquid silk. It's crisp like a cold apple and it makes you forget about life while you're in it.

When I was little, younger than ten for sure, my family took me to Mexico at a beach side resort two or three times. I vaguely remember spending hours with my brothers in the water, throwing ourselves against the waves and letting the tide pull us around. We were smart though, we'd learned to make sure the tide didn't pull us under. We were all pretty strong swimmers too at a very early age.
We'd also make sandcastles, sand sculptures in general. At least we called them sculptures, for the most part they were the best our tiny fingers and hands could make. I was the artsy fartsy kid so I always tried to make elaborate designs that would easily crumble.
Then when the sun was starting to sink into the gulf, we would head back to the hotel and either sit in hot tubs or our room's jacoozi, then crash on the queen bed or fall asleep at a late night dinner.
