furniture carpenter here, and have been working as it for about 10 years now and i´m curently in the process of making my very own fingerbox AS THEY ARE SUPOSED TO BE MADE!!...in wood, have been working on it on and off for about 2 years now and its near completion

Nah they have some made post 1896 The warehouse burned down but there were some that were salvaged and refurbished so not exactly a Keanu Classic but they still are worth quite a lot.

i have allready asked /diy/ and they seem to be split 50/50 on the subject
i know that the chance of splinters is grater with the Mountain Birch......but its so fucking cool looking with that spotted/flamed kinda look

yea i know i could not find a better picture of it so i took the first one with good spotts showing (though this peicular piece seem to have been dropped/draged on a floor or some shit......but thats nothing some sand-paper cant fix!)
i´ve even seen mountain birch polished so much it kinda shimmers like some kind of half-gem stone or so.....though that requiers hours and hours of work (worth it tough)

Some guy on craigs list just tried to sell me a very suspect finger box.

When I questioned him on it's somewhat large size, he said that was because the finger box was for the northern climates where people have to wear thick padded gloves.

Anyways I didn't believe him.

Whatever. This is a pic my mom had of my great uncle Laurie's fingerbox. Apparently, he found it digging a garden. It was carved out of stone, extremely heavy, cold and smooth inside and out.

Retired anthropologist Laurie met at a card game wanted to see it. He said it was likely from the bronze age from the markings on the bottom but the edges and surfaces were too precise for that period.

In 2010, the same guy offered to have it dated. He said that new dating tests came out for clay and stone. My aunt agreed (uncle had passed away and she didn't care). Aunt Sue died unexpectedly and Mom never got the name of the man who stole it.
