Got employed at McDonald's for $15 / hour because all of the old employees left to join the fracking rigs

It brought a ton of money into our town - the city started fixing the roads, updating buildings, etc.

I can afford to go to college now thanks to fracking

I literally learned about fracking in school today, and I come home to see this thread.
It feels really fucking surreal.

The people affected by cracking live in small towns that generally don't have internet. It's unlikely you'll meet anyone impacted by it on 4chan. But I did bankrupt several small businesses by taking advantage of the boom. Pic very related
>>
>>680140488
What about the quakes fracking causes?
>>
Most of Australia's remaining pristine rural lands are being ruined by fracking. Completely fucks the water table, pollutes local waterways and drinking supplies, in some cases to the point where you can set the surface of the water on fire from all the bubbling methane.

Shits great, mate!
>>
>>680140404
fuck if I know. it was gay so I fell asleep, but the gist of it is that you drill into the earth (literally miles) for trapped gas and convert it into energy. It's the next way to go green, but it costs a fuckload of money to make the drills. You could probably google it to understand it clearer.
>>
>>680137292
I live in Oklahoma. We have 3.0+ magnitude quakes all the time.
I also live fairly close to the oilfields so usually an close to the epicenters.
Shit gets knocked down and broken at times.
>>
>>680137292
I've been affected by fracking. My wallet hasn't been raped by the money hungry muslims that run OPEC
>>
>>680140633
They're usually in the middle of nowhere and very small. Definitely overblown. Sinkholes however are very real and have made many small towns uninhabitable

Facktard, op here. Your explanation is horse shit and I asked for first hand experiences. Kindly leave
>>
>>680140939
If you think that fracking has any depreciable value to add to oil supplies / opec price control, you are very very foolish.
>>
>>680140939
Do gas prices go down locally?
>>
>>680140985
>Overblown
Nigger. Oklahoma's corporation commission (the state entity that regulates oil and gas in the state) is having to force the shutdown and lessened operations of hundreds of waste water injection sites to stop all the earthquakes here. We had over 1100 3.0 or greater earthquakes last year and upwards of 3,000 overall earthquakes.
The only thing overblown is your ass.
>>
>>680141275
Went from over 4 dollars a gallon down to ~1.50 dollars a gallon in the course of two months, it's fucking great, haven't seen prices like this in YEARS

jesus fracking christ could you shills be more obvious?
>>
>>680140859
This is also the reason people are doing this shit.

Some idiot somewhere some long time ago, said this is a green way for energy production.

Its a lie, full and upfront. YouTube will show you how much in about 30seconds. Fracking is HORRIBLE ecologically and even understanding the base process, it doesn't take a smart person to understand that pumping methane through the ground water, up and down, is not a smart thing to do. Nor safe. nor green.

This industry destroys land. Above and below. Irreparably. You still end up putting the same pollutants into the atmosphere, but hey, you end up fucking your land for food and animal production too. GENIUS.

Coal production and consumption is cleaner in my eyes. At least the land can be backfilled and reused after time.
>>
>>680141407

Total bullshit. You're a gullible moron or a liar. And either way, you don't know what you're talking about.
>>
>>680141761
its honestly not.

A really interesting thing would be pushing helium 3, hydrogen, or other alternative fuels.

Solving the energy crisis should be the main point of interest, not what it costs to fill your stupid car.

these shale shills are way too eagar.
>>
>>680141631
So it's the final grasp for oil
>>
>>680141800
Oh no, no idea at all, ive only been involved with CSC and worked in the energy sector for the five years that fracking was really taking off.

Could I mention how I also have had family members, with ruined lands from the process being run outside the town.

Look actually you shill, its really fucking simple. Methane, a gas that is flammable, should not be passing through water. That water trickles through everything. You pollute that last store of water, and it flows on to everything topside.

Lastly, I wont mention the long running court cases we're going through about all of this. Because, I know nothing.

Fuck off you oil shill. Stop polluting our shit.
>>
>>680141901
In context to this thread it is.
>>
>>680141800
Nice facts
>>
>>680142109
essentially, yeah, it kind of is.

There is more oil out there, but this is a method that's cheaper, easier, and productive.

Because the stuff deep down ... is getting hard to find, and the price point of retrieval is almost getting up to break even.

Whats a few more ecological disasters so some fucking blueblood can bring stocks up .01 percent.
>>
>>680137292

Fuck yes I have, my gas prices are way low.
>>
I live in a part of Texas that started facing a couple years ago. Ever since then we've had earthquakes every week or two. Never had them before.
>>
>>680142375
So the oil companies are dinosaurs. Big and mighty. Top of the food chain soon to be extinct
>>
>>680140795
Same thing in Alberta. We are actually getting small earthquakes because of it now.
>>
>>680142468
So micro climate change
>>
>>680142260
Again, no its really not. In context of the thread, fracking is a newer process and is considered an alternative method.

Lets push other methods. Better, proven methods.

Hell, we get a proper green method up and running, and it will cost NEXT TO NOTHING to fill your car.

Wouldn't that be better than a dollar a gallon?

What if we put in the researched, pushed h3 production and had a working engine and production method up in 10 years.

Blink of an eye. And all those 2.50 a fill savings you made while ruining shit fracking suddenly become pointless, and holy shit... expensive.

In context of the thread, the local gas price in buttfuck Idaho changing by a dollar or two, and for no other communities immediately outside their boarders is pointless, and actually counterproductive.
>>
>>680142726
No.
>>
>>680142226
B-but muh rig pig job, and muh truck
>>
>>680142517
mmm, no, because shale oil isn't out and about in life saving quantities either. I mean, sure its a virtually untapped source, but it wont be long before we are in the same trap.

But this time, your fucking your land and water to boot.
>>
>>680142761
It's as simple as this, until your green methods are cheaper to buy, manufacture, and maintain over gas methods, they won't take off, and there is zero point in even talking about them now because it's still so fucking expensive. So get your head out of the damn clouds and start dealing with the problems that exists NOW
>>
>>680142761
This thread is not for advocating fracking. It's for the first hand experiences, good and bad. If you wanna talk about alternative fuels then go start a thread. As for weening off oil, it's a no brainer, needs to happen. But that's besides the point
>>
>>680142761
Yeah, except capitalism
The oil and gas industry is rather large
>>
>>680142971
So it's partly the consumers fault for being too near sighted
>>
>>680142761
Also, shit isn't just local price drops. I live far as fuck from any fracking, and gas here is still 2$ cheaper than it used to be. Gas prices are significantly lower across the U.S. because of fracking.
>>
>>680142971
You deal with the problems by working on solutions.

h3, helium and shit... even electrical, these are solutions. Working practical, we have them now, they are just not mass produced because someone can still squeeze a buck out of oil.

These are far from head in the cloud solutions. They are here, now.... on time when required... and subsequently ignored.

The attitude that fuck if I can change it so why bother is exactly why it never does.

You get your head out of the clouds numbnuts.

This place is pretty fucking unique. We've almost done our dash here. What is so sky high thinking about better ways things can be done.
>>
>>680137292
It caused mud slides near me a few years ago. They killed a few people.
> no history of mudslides
> fracking moves in
> people complain about flammable tap water, because natural gas got into their wells.
> lawsuits, problems, legal battles
> man goes out to irrigate his hay field, 1/2 acre covers his property from mud slide.
The oilfield swears they are not responsible, but I can't find any mudslide that happened for 100 years before, in 200 miles.
>>
>>680143256
bravo... your short term gain is great.

And when your food prices skyrocket because workable land has dropped by 30 percent.

And when your water needs to go through additional treatment and cleaning processes, Just to drink it. Think that will be free?

But bully for you, you can fill that tank and save maybe five bucks on the short term.
>>
We don't get fracking in the UK, our cars are built to actually work up to around 80k mileage
>>
>>680143377
Some of these environmental changes are more severe than I was thinking they'd be
>>
>>680143217
It's just economics you twat, people want to cheap the money they earn to spend on things they WANT, and companies want to save money to make more money, it's all self interest, take a fucking basic economics course
>>
>>680143002
I don't debate that. But there has to be a tipping point. No matter how large.

When everyones dropping dead from cancer because of the pollutio.... oh wait.

Surely when it heats up so much that all the coral reefs bleach and die of.... shit lets try again

Maybe, when prices get so high the average Joe Sixpack actually considers the advantage over short term gain.

MAYBE THAT WILL BE IT.

It has to happen. No matter how large, the tyrant has to fall. There is no point to life if you cannot even live in it.
>>
>>680143489
Does fracking mean something else across the pond?
>>
>>680143489

>>
>>680144074
How are you not unretarded enough to know about hydrogen fuel cells.

Attach a carbon filter to something that's already putting out zero emission and hey presto, negative coefficient.

So yeah, I guess you are.
>>
>>680143575
I think it was Longmont Colorado, last year.
> water quality control problems
> localized earth quakes
> ban fracking
> things return to normal
Might be Greely, but mid north Colorado for sure. The oilfield does all it can to prevent negative press.
>>
I live in West Virginia, right in the middle of all of this natural gas boom. I fucking hate it all. For one thing, the big trucks that carry all of the shit for the wells are destroying the roads around here. I've never seen so many pot holes and I've yet to see a back road where there isn't at least one slip where the road has broken off. The state is doing nothing to fix them either. Another issue is the noise pollution that they cause. We can't go one night without hearing the rumbling from the wells and trucks. The lights from the wells light up the night sky too. There's one well that has a roaring flame coming out if the top of it almost every other night. The people who sold out their land have mostly moved away and left their houses to rot and fall apart. It's all a disgrace to the natural beauty my area used to have.
>>
>>680144269
Nobody cares mate, and you can say that yeah people will change when they notice visible changes, rising sea levels, changes to weather, but this stuff is already happening. And then you ask well what would it take.
And I don't think there is anything, nobody gives a fuck, and we're on a path to destruction.
>>
>>680144465
but how much per gallon?
>>
>>680144092
Spoken like a true oil baron. Climate change: not my problem. Oil resources: not my problem(yet). Consumer ignorance: not my problem( my advantage). So now we are at economics vs sustainability
>>
>>680137292
I get a ~10,000$ check every month for residuals on production. I inherited a piece of land that is literally worthless other than for the fact it was parceled into a production field.

When things were really good for a barrel of oil I was making $10,000 a week.

I know of people who went from abject poverty to a $600,000 check every month.
>>
>>680144465
how many teeth?
>>
>>680144649
The system is fucked and will never change until we can eliminate the one driving force that is relative behind all of these things.

Unfortunately, I think wed give up oil before we give up money. Free energy needs to come soon, because we aren't about to change the other two things.

Otherwise, I agree, we are on a path of total destruction.

Shits fucked yo. Time to smoke a jay.

Also, the company has a dedicated team of ecologists who basically spend all their time doing testing. They found a bunch of old dipping pens and other toxic areas and abated them.

Yeah I'm not an ameritard and I can actually realise the difference between socialism and OMG RED COMMIES CRUSHING US ALL.

Socialism died because it was fighting in a battle to the death with capitalism.

Lets see: The hard but fair way didn't win, the lazy but easy way did.

Big surprise that? That everyone didn't want to put in the work for the good of all?

I don't propose we move to socialism. We don't have an effective system of management for the crazy types that do shit kind of power.

But yeah, historically, its been shown pretty much the entirety of our existence that when we all work together for the one cause or the one ideal, massive things get achieved.

Its also shown historically that those who gather and horde, at the expense of others ALWAYS get their comeuppance. The revolution always rolls around and those cunts are first to the wall.

But its all good... capitalism is the way to go chief, workin real good around here your way.

Capitalism is stifled by regulations. With there would already be way more alternative energy vehicles and plants if the oil companies couldn't pass their own laws by buying politicians. Under current law capitalism is strangled. Neither capitalism or socialism has a fair chance at succeeding under the current oil monarchy
>>
>>680142982
To which I've provided a large deal of the fact for in the negative.

>>
>>680146089
I cant wrap my head around it. I'm trying to, but it hurts my brain.

But at any rate, I agree. Capitalism or socialism in either form cannot provide what is required. One cares too little, the other perhaps too much.

I cant argue for that change, I'm not a political/social science major. I can however argue a thousand fold over that fracking is fucked. Ruins your land, your water and is not at all a green process.

Yes.
i own land in western KS. I've had it for about 10 years. 600+ acres, has a small lake and near Hwy I-70. Local farmer(s) were paying me to rent to farm it. took care of my property taxes and a little extra.
- about 5 years ago lawyer representing oil&gas company wants to lease my land. Will pay bonus $ if actual oil/gas removed.
--after a few months of checking things out I signed a agreement. I got about $20,000 up front and then $8-10,000 a month after.
--I was expecting more $ but they only found a little oil and much more gas on my property. Oil it seems is much more valuable.
--I have visited the area twice and have never seen any actual drilling. there weer a whole bunch of trucks and equipment on my land though.
--it seems they have had value using the water from my lake. fracking require water and my land sits on top of an ocean.
-area farmers haven't reported any problems with drinking water only problems with traffic from all the oil/gas trucks driving around.
--my experience has been good. I just wish I was getting more $$ when the market was there
