As a non american, i like that it's an idealistic depiction of growing up for many people, i.e. bad stuff happens but turns out ok
Even though I know it's not reality in the USA, it still makes me want to go there to experience this lifestyle
>>679896009
Zombeavers, watch it, then end your life because you will never experience anything as great again

Why did you like death proof? The buildup wasn't worth the payoff in my mind.
>>679896009
Great choice. I was in 5th grade when it came out, and it's been one of my favorites ever since.
Pic related is probably my favorite movie, though I kind of go back and forth with it and the original Night as my favorite. I love both, and really can't decide between them.

Sorcerer (1977), William Friedkin's overlooked masterpiece.
It was released at the exact same time as the original Star Wars, so it bombed, hard.

I watched A Fistful of Dollars long before I ever watched Yojimbo. It's hard for me to say that I like Yojimbo more, but if I were being totally honest I'd say it's objectively the better film. Fistfull is notable mainly because it's a Clint Eastwood film. Had he not been the star, I think it would be mostly forgotten much like Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing, which I actually quite enjoyed too, albeit it's not anywhere close to being in the same league as Yojimbo.
I will say that if choosing between The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and Yojimbo though, I'd end up choosing the former. It's just that great, and Tuco is one of the best villains ever. I mean it's not often that you see such a vile piece of shit, coming across so damn sympathetically. I don't really think of it as a Clint Eastwood film, because Tuco fucking stole the show, no question. Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef felt more like supporting actors, and honestly both have had better roles, and didn't seem like they were pouring themselves into it like Eli Wallach. High Plains Drifter and Josey Wales were both better Eastwood roles by far.
I've always meant to watch Seven Samurai, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Again, I saw The Magnificent Seven a long time ago, and really love it. I kind of fear I might end up torn between it, and the original, like with Yojimbo/Fistful.

i kinda agree, but i really enjoyed speed racer and jupitor ascending, both of which i admit had flaws but i appreciated their commitment to style and the detailed world building. I think their problem is they try to pack too much into their movies at the expense of plot and character development. They have imagination to spare and they come up with solid concepts, but their judgement is lacking. I think that's what made the matrix so good, it had this crazy premise but the focus was entirely on a small, well fleshed out cast and the details of the world were handed out sparingly and only when important to the plot.

I like the 90 remake. It's a good film. It definitely had better gore and effects. The reason I don't think as highly of it as the original, is the way Savini changed important things, particularly the ending. The original was just so bleak, and (and I mean this in a good way) senseless. That's why it worked so well. In some ways I like Barbara better in the remake, but overall no. Her being a complete basketcase in the original just worked so much better.
I really like Tony Todd as an actor. Unfortunately he's just been in too much complete shit. When given the chance he really shines as an actor, but he's made a career out of making shitty choices.
