Then he'd ask me if I got all that, and I'd repeat only what I heard. Then he'd go apeshit about the shit that he said while in the bathroom with the loud ass fan.

We were fixing a leaky propane tank once, and he told me to go inside and get the soap. I came back with regular dish soap, and he said "no, idiot, from the bathroom". So i grabbed hand soap and shampoo, no knowing which. he just sighed at me and grabbed fucking laundry detergent, saying "how are you going to make it in this world if you can't even get this right?"

He was teaching me to shoot a rifle as a kid, and he told me to "aim at the berm". I was 9, so i didn't know what the fuck that was, so I asked. He grabbed the gun from me and said "I don't feel comfortable with this in your hands".

I chopped down probably 50lbs of dead tree limbs once, and was burning them in a gigantic barrel. He came out and told me to watch the fire. I had been staring at it for half an hour (that transfixed gaze you get when watching fire). I didn't change anything, I just said ok and kept staring at it. He turned on the hose and put it out immediately, saying "Christ, what the fuck are you trying to do, you psycho??" I was burning only like 2 logs at a time.

I was buffing/polishing his car (old ass shitbox), and he told me to "hit that spot again", so I rebuffed it. He kept telling me "no, not there... THERE". I'd go right where he was pointing. After about 5 times of apparently not getting the right spot, he pushed me to the ground and said I was fucking it up. I was 8.

I stopped telling him pretty much anything about my life at 15, not even telling him I joined the national guard or when I was sent to Afghanistan. He cried when I came home, and we've been cool ever since.

Me and my mother had some issues, but god dammit sometimes she was an amazing parent. This is parenting done right guys. I completely forgot about this until I came to this thread.

It's really depressing though, because when I hit 13-14 I became a massive asshole to her, made worst by the fact that her mother was dying and she was never around the house to take care of me, AND the fact that we wouldn't be able to afford our house once her mother died. Her depression and stress got so bad that she gave up on being a parent. She just let me drop out of High School without a single reason. Didn't get a job until I was 19, and I leeched off her the whole time.
I was in football and band, making good grades, was getting pretty popular and I'd bring my girlfriends home to meet her. My life was fucking perfect, but my rebellious phase was just too intense, and came at too bad of a time.

She still blames herself, that's why she still lets me live with her, and if I were to quit my job she'd take care of me.
I'm going to bed, fuck feelings. I never realized why she let me drop out, or even why she's taken care of me despite being a complete failure and a neet for years until now.
