So you sayin you wouldn't "educate" her?
>>
>>678929889

In the eyes of society, yes.

As for money, major in something of value and/or go to grad school for something that is not basket weaving, yes.

Does not going to college=success or money? No. There are plenty of people who never finished and went on to start businesses. But that's the thing. They are the absolute minority and it takes a fuck load of work to do something like that. If you think you're just going to "wing" life and become rich without bothering with an education, you're an idiot.

There is a reason most people without a degree work menial wageslave jobs they hate and that is why there are so many people in their late 20's and even 30's who go to school with the idea of getting a degree so they can get a career they don't hate.

Note to people who are in their early 20's and hate college, just finish the degree.
>>
If i'm not getting a degree in nursing or IT, am i wasting my time
>>
>>678929889

No. The vast majority of people coming out of college are unemployable and attributing to the national debt with their student loans that they have no means or intention of ever paying back.

>>678930635

That's why you should go to school for something valuable, but if everyone did that, then the valuable fields would become even more over saturated and the degree would be pointless. In reality the only things worth pursuing are the following

4 year degrees:

Nursing
Engineering
Comp sci
Biochemistry
Forestry if you're interesting in working in nature and being a forest ranger
Physics/Math (if you're actually innovative and smart)

Everything else is worthless

If you're interested in going to school for more than 4 years

Medicine
Dentistry
Law (only if you get into a top school)
Clinical/Industrial psychology (only if you get a PhD)

Pretty much, American society needs dumb people to do shitty jobs. Sorry everybody. The whole do what you love and everything will be ok fantasy you were told when you were a child is bullshit.

Want my honest advice? Seriously consider medical or dental school.

Engineering is objectively one of the most difficult degrees with the heaviest course loads. Med schools and dental school know this. You have the sciences and maths probably. Take the MCAT, do well, and apply to some med school.

Once you're in, you've already basically gotten over the hardest part and you'll pretty much have a guaranteed job

It doesn't matter what degree you have going into med school - As long as you take the required classes (Bio, Biochem, labs, etc), and do well on the MCAT.
>>
>>678936846

>Can I take the MCAT with a poli sci degree

Absolutely you can. There are many people from fields non science oriented that get into med school and finish it. I know of a bunch of people who got into med schools with degrees in philosophy, psychology and music.

If anything coming from a non science background makes your application look interesting and stand out.

That being said, if you're in the USA you will probably need to have the science pre requisites, but some schools in Canada have scratched them (UBC, McMaster, Queens, and many others actually).

Also if you're in Canada McMaster does not require the science section of the MCAT.

If you're in the USA you will need to take those classes and I think most of them can be taken at any old community college but you will have to double check that. Alternatively if you're in Canada you could try studying for the MCAT without taking the courses. However this would require buying study materials, possibly taking an MCAT prep course and getting a good tutor to help you with the more challenging aspects of it.

>Registered nurses fresh out of school are coming across thousands of job postings with an impossible requirement: "no new grads."

>A survey by the National Student Nurse's Association showed 36% of newly licensed RNs graduating in 2011 were not working as registered nurses four months after graduation.

>In California, the problem looks even worse. About 43% of newly licensed RNs there still did not have jobs within 18 months after graduation, according to a separate 2011 survey conducted by the California Institute for Nursing & Health Care.

>"The process has become more and more discouraging, especially since hospitals want RNs with experience, yet nobody is willing to give us this experience," said Ronak Soliemannjad, 26, an RN in San Jose, Calif., who has been searching for a nursing job since she graduated in June.

>"It is a tough market for a new grad RN. A 'year experience required' or 'not considering new grads at this time' is pretty much the norm," wrote one.

Kek great question!

Women's/Feminist/Gender Studies: At the lowest end of the line labeled "Humanities and liberal arts" and "Communications and journalism" (~$40).

Dance Theory: The slightly less than the median of "Arts" (~$42)

Feminism is lower because the women that aren't brain-dead combine it with a degree that has actual transferable skills or just say fuck it and starve as a blogger.

i dunno m8 every single pajeet on the planet is trying to get into the US on a IT degree, and you can talk shit into a IT job without a degree if you know your stuff, you might want to ask /g/ tbh

I have fam friends that do hiring for their respective departments and they have said on more then 1 occassion that they dont even pay attention to anyone that has beloow 3.2 cumulative bc there are so many prospects they never have to step down

then absolutely dont major in CS nor IT cert.

It honestly depends on where you live. If you live somewhere where there is major oil or mining industries you can make a lot of money with a highschool education or lower.

Also, trades like plumbing, welding, electrician etc

talking to one of my professors today who just finished his PhD and the university paid for it, he just had to be a TA/GTA and a research assist for a professor who needed alot of data crunching.

>>
>>678940587

It was a 2013 article. Surveys don't just whisk into existence instantaneously.

The point is that the placement rate is surprisingly low for a job that the media constantly serves up as a "good degree."

It's not a bad degree, though. More health services will be needed in the future. But the country desperately needs both health care reform and policy reform for how salary exempt employees are managed. Both get in the way of nursing being a surefire option.
>>
>>678940254
i make 60k a year with an associates in comp sci.
i got a job in the kitchen of a big ass corporation three years ago and they paid for me to get my degree.
come graduation time i put in one application, got one interview, and got the job.
full benefits, paid time off, and they keep paying for school.
i dont do anything related to comp sci, but it pays
>>
Shit. I'm a forman at a large construction company making about $1000 a week salary. Never went to college. Have too much money, only thing to do was buy a house. So no. You don't need school. Only motivation to live you stupid life
>>
>>678930254
this meme that you can't even get a job at a fast food place/other low-mid tier job without a degree is stupid as fuck. i've literally never known anyone who has had an issue finding work without a college degree (unless they have some kind of other issue that makes them unhireable).

i make a perfectly decent living off of $13/hour as a security guard. i'm not rich or anything but i have no problems paying my fucking bills and i had no problem getting the job without a college degree or any qualifications.

if you want to be successful, yeah, go to college because chances are you aren't some super genius who will hit it big without a degree.

but you can totally live relatively comfortably without one.

I scored an interview for a sewer inspector position I really wanted, and a phone interview for an internship doing government policy that I didn't really want. Other than that, it's been crickets.

Honestly at this point if age and prestige of degree are not getting you a job you have two problems.

1. You are a terrible interview (or not even getting interviews because of shitty cover letters and resume)

2. the job market sucks in your area

3. you need to go back to school for legitimate skills that employers want and you don't have.
>>
>>678942870
okay, so why are you not getting hired? like i said, if someone like me who has zero qualifications, no degree, and no connections can get hired to low end jobs like the ones you posted about I find it hard to believe that someone with demonstrable work experience and a college degree can't.

why can't you work in public policy / as a researcher for policy analysis?? Or elections are coming up, try to get a campaign / field organizing position. you should've have at least taken econometrics / survey methodology crap in school, so you can pretend to know data analysis.

also, pro-tip: you won't be given a bad ass job to begin with. you usually ahve to take some crappy pay jobs that you can make sound like they're ten times better on your resume, and then apply for better jobs.

also, try professional resume editors and cover letter writers adn stuff

>i dont mind being on a computer all day
That's a major oversimplification. Have you ever tried to code? Most people hate it.

College = bigger chance for money not necessarily success

A lot of people are lazy slobs and won't do shit if they if their life doesn't depend on it - Ofc. exceptions exist, but there's so many who just accept they have to put effort into it and then wont do it.

Drive right and don't get any tickets and especially no DUIs. Live with parents and work saving all the money you can. At 21 get CDL A with hazmat, tanker, doubles, triples and passenger endorsements. Go to work for reputable trucking company. Keep your shit stowed at parents house free of charge. Bank everything you can. Pay cash for house at 26. Move into smallest bedroom and rent out other rooms. Bank more money. Buy truck and start your own trucking company. Buy more trucks and hire more drivers. Be semi retired by 40.

I dunno. I'm able to save $100-$200 a month, but car problems or getting sick could wipe that out my savings.

And the juice on my student loans in running all the time, so I'm actually going negative each month even though I'm "saving money".

The cake was a lie.

I went through this interview thing for teaching abroad in Japan. I wanted to learn that language too, so I figured why not go out and live. I like teaching kids and adults, moreso kids because they respect you and stfu, but maybe everyone in Japan will be like that - ideal student. Problem is, I would have to leave in 4 months time from now and need to save 3k to pay for the flight + rent and food.

That's my plan anyway. And while I'm over there, I plan to study like a motherfucker and apply to work in the Foreign Service. We'll see how it goes. Some anon's gave me the idea of working toward doing the MCAT. If I can take the necessary classes at any old community college, I might seriously make a play at it and study that over in Japan too.

Good luck to us both, anon sempai.

I've slept with a lot of nurses and one awesome thing is that they all eat butt. I've gotten my butthole licked by more nurses during blowjobs than I can probably remember.

>it's the fact that i'll be old as fuck compared to people with similar qualification

lol nigga you even been on a college campus? There are old fucks everywhere. I took classes at a community college my freshman year and there was a lady who was 55 years old.

I think your future boss will even respect you more because you went back to school to have a better life. I'm sure he/she knows how difficult that must be. yet you do it.

don't worry bro
we're all gonna make it.
