What was the lesson to be learned there?

Then, when I think about Christianity in its historical context - the role of Constantine and his motivations; the socially and politically motivated cobbling together of the sacred texts at the councils; the fact that it's all heavily based on Jewish mythology but Christians doggedly refuse to recognize the fact that they're following something very Semitic (and perhaps truly alien to their own culture) - it makes it very difficult to keep the faith.

Then when you look at Christianity from an empirical and scientific standpoint - the fact that there really is no evidence for any of it (and no real reason for why there shouldn't be beyond the fact that God is supposedly very angry with us and very mysterious) - it gets even more difficult.

I'll be the first to telk you, I can easily believe in a creator deity/deities, however strong or weak it/they may be. And even if they are interfere with our lives, are indifferent, or perhaps don't know they created us. Perhaps even these deities aren't even intelligent beinga, perhaps theg just exist and Somehow are responsible for us. But one thing i'm alnost dead positive of, is that the god of abraham doesn't exist.

I like to call myself a different breed of Christian. I believe their is a God but I don't believe you have to be perfect and do no wrong to have a good afterlife. We are only human, we will make mistakes. Put it this way: have you ever killed a human? Have you ever made someone kill their self? If you said no to those than you will most likely not go to a hell.

Im not a christian because I wasnt brought up to be a christian. I wasnt brought up specifically not to be one either, as with most northern european families, religion was just a complete non-issue so it was entirely up to me to decide what I believed and what I didnt. for me the whole idea seemed pretty silly from a very early age. and it is kindve silly isnt it, people just believe what they were told as small children, carry it into their adult lives somehow and pass it on to their own children. they all seem convinced that theirs is the one true religion, whatever it is, but if they'd happened to be born into a different culture theyd be equally convinced of a different faith.

And I believe that if there is a god then that god must have an observer, which makes that observer the real god so there can't be a single god.

I think the universe is just the universe and the closer you look the more you'll realize you can't bridge the gap to the next universe whether you're looking bigger or smaller.

The Bible is known as God's word because it can speak to you. It can show you what to do in your struggles, both by guiding you in the 10 commandments and through more obscure stories that only would make sense to you and your situation. I know this because God has answered my prayers and addressed my problems, both through the scripture and through miracles I've experienced.

The only difference between you and me is that I seek his guidance, while you mock it. You can claim whatever you want about the legitimacy about the Word and about me, but what does that accomplish you? A momentary victory?

In the end, I'm satisfied knowing him. My experiences are enough proof to me.
