Well as an Ubuntu user I will say it has problems sometimes but not anymore than the problems that come with Windows. When I saw that Win10 was outfitted with malware disguised as "Windows Features", like keyloggers and trojans, I looked for something else. I am a Freelance dev and I needed an operating system that still had access to the kinds of programs i need for doing the stuff I do and Ubuntu was a good choice with easy to install software even tho since the switch I have been able to figure out how to compile and install programs from source code which is a handy thing to know. But back to the point, all operating systems have their pros and cons but just find one that you are comfortable with and use it.

The Linux drivers for Nvidia are not 8 gigs, they are pretty small compared to the Windows versions. You should be able to fit them on something that is greater than 2 gigs.
