If you're going to stick with green, look at truly green staple cards. There are certain things that you can run in any green EDH deck and will gain you value.

Then look for some colorless staples that you can run in any deck in case you might want to add a color or run another deck later on.

I used to play Magic while in high school, and I was pretty bad at it, not too bad, but didn't realize what its bad common card and what is not. Now that I'm 21 years old, been out of the Magic scene all most 6 years I started playing it again 18 months ago. Lately I've been into preleases. In last 4 preleases I went, I did 4-2, 4-2, 5-1 and 5-1. Magic costs way too much money and time, that I could play it more seriously. I really recommend that you start participating in those preleases. It's easily most fun, less time consuming and you can play it for free if your good at it. I always sell my boosters that I won to fellow players, and end up making 10-15€ a tournament.

The game was not prepared for it, I could simply put any shitty card upside down telling you that it was a morph creature, win the game and then shuffle the card back in my deck without showing it to you.

It was a stupid mechanic. MTG is full of stupid mechanics. It's a shabling frankenstein of a game, where every stupid shit they release breaks five other things, and they fiddle around trying to fix it with those idiotic ban lists and such.


So you can spend U$ 1.000,00 in your deck today, and next week, when they release the next ban list, your cards start to be worth less than the paper they are printed on.

I'm currently playing a red/white deck that includes EVERY red card with the "Act of Treason" effect. "gain control of a creature till end of turn, gains haste, untap, etc. Yea it's like a 33% act of treason with sac outlets. It's fun, I use that a couple artifacts to flicker them as well, so they under my control. Insurrection usually wins the game when I play it. Archangel Avacyn is the commander right now, I win a good portion of the games through commander damage. I play a couple hefty equipment with her that also allow for sacrificing.

At the prerelease I went to a guy next to me got a foil ugin and the shop owner traded him a booster box for it. He didn't pull any ugins but I'd say he got the better end of the deal. I didn't even kniw I had ugin at first, I opened my oack and saw a land and was gonna throw the oack away when a nearby player told me I had two more card in there (my first tournament and prerelease ever I had no clue) so I said oh I have ugin and he laughed and I said no really and put him on the table and the entire shop like WHOOSHED to me. Highlight of the day lol

Hmm how to explain it.. Cards with the ability "Dredge" basically lets you replace any instance of "Draw a card" with put X cards from the top of your library into your graveyard. So Dredge 6 = mill 6. So if I play a spell that says "Draw 4 cards, I can instead Dredge 4 cards and put 20+ cards into my graveyard, then play a bunch of graveyard recurring shit and run you over.

tl;dr - put half deck in graveyard, you're dead.

This is my favorite card. I have a Mayael the Anima deck (my most expensive one right now), and this is the only instant/sorcery in the entire deck. So if I cast it when no one can respond, I put basically my entire deck onto the feild. Normally just this spell itself resolving will win the game through effects like Warstorm Surge and Where Ancients tread. However, if anyone is left alive somehow, I'll just run over them with my entire field, which has haste + a bunch of other shit thanks to cards like Akroma's Memorial.

It's fun trying to design a deck without any instants or sorceries. Anything they can do, you can find a creature/artifact/enchantment that does it too. Would it win a super competitive tournament full of blue players? Probably not. But does it win games at the card shop? Hell yeah. And it's a blast to play.

Back in the day when EDH was just starting and cards hadn't ballooned in price, I would get every card to complete a deck. These days, I mostly proxy my cards and use penny sleeves. It's a great use of extra commons, lets you test out ideas without breaking bank (so if it flops, no money was wasted on special use cards), and lets you modify a deck on the fly.

No I will not pay $7 (peaked somewhere around $15) for the common Fifth Dawn, Serum Visions, that used to be as cheap as dirt.

If you like elf tribal you might be into Euro, claw of progress. The deck relies on g/u and making little cheap guys massive hitters. You can buy the structure deck and a safe of hours for >60$ and have a decent deck.
