Do any of you guys use a safety razor? Thinking of buying a second one. Been using a Merkur 34c for about a year now, thinking about geting a Muhle r41 or a merkur slant.

Those things are a fucking plastic toys. Why do people still overpay for fucking cartridge razors?

Safety razors shave better than disposables, irritate you're skin even less than electrics, and are cheaper in the long run (the initial cost is higher but the blades are cheaper than dirt)

Get a Pils razor. These things all stainless steel and are top-notch quality. Expensive but as expensive as ABT and ikon. They also shave a lot better then a slant.

I don't have time to go to a barber and they're worth the time I save. Also, it's less likely you'd accidentally fuck up your face.
If you have time for a shaving routine like going to a barber, sure, do whatever you want.

>Why do people still overpay for fucking cartridge razors?
The same reason some men cuck their women, be a lazy fat shit, vote democrats and act like betas. Seriously disturbing how people still haven't figured out that wet shaving is just more cost-effective and efficient then cartridge razors.

At the same point as you. Merkur 34c for a year. I'm a poor ass college student so I've just been investing in other things. I'd love a new razor. I'd probably go with the 37c slant or even a straight.

Also, most recent soap mail call. Reef Point is one hell of a performer.
>>
>>677904961
It really isn't. Some people treat it like that, but it's honestly just a better way to shave. Less irritation and adds a little bit of an enjoyable side to a very shit part of many mornings.
>>
Yeah OP I have a a shitload of wetshaving shit I don't use anymore because I'm lazy asf.

My fave setup was muhle R41, Astra blade, cella or razorock XXX and an omega boar...

I kinda miss it...but a dorco 6 blade cartridge is way too fucking easy

>poor

Anon, pls.
You're looking at a Straight razor, brand new obviously, because unlike safety razor, vintage straight razors are shit unless you can restore them yourself.
Next you'd need some honing stones, maybe a Gold Dollar straight or two to practice and not accidently fuckup your 300$ razor.
One strop for your razor, an other one for the abrasive paste.

Nigga. Please.
>>
>>677905918
Ah, well. I suppose you've got me there. It's alright to have one lame hobby, though. Whatever you like doing.

Fuck fedoras tho. Vapes are okay if you're not an "i vape" guy.

Yup...
Using an "alpha" safety razor brings a supreme gentleman an extra bit of class... Also only NEETs have the copious amount of extra time needed to shave with one of these relics.

Honesty tho Anon, I have a few razors; a fatboy, a super adjustable, a superspeed, an old tech I quite like, even bought a futur, tried a few others, and, whenever I go for a shave, my hand just goes for the 34C + Astra Platinum. Unless I'm in for an aggressive shave, then I'd go with the Futur on setting 6 + Feather.
If I had only one razor, it would definitely be the 34C.

Also, Razorock Plissoft brushes are really fucking impressive for the price.

>>677904961
>This is literally just like fedoras and vapes
A lot of people see it like that, but we don't fucking brag about out to other people and put ourselves at an arrogant position like vapers and fedoras. Also its a better way to shave and we don't force this down on other people's throats.

>>677905909

TBH I tried shaving with an older style safety razor and my skin got irritated, although I didn't switch from shaving cream in a can to balm either. One of the main reasons I don't want to is I travel and i don't want to have to have a set of things to take shaving, just a razor and a travel size can of cream.

I tried it for a good two weeks before going back to the gillette fusion. I buy my razors in bulk online, $35 for 15 razors. That's a little under $2.50 per cartridge. Doesn't seem to bad because I make sure my cartridge is clean and dry before I put it away so it lasts almost a month, like three weeks.

Also got an electric trimmer recently, stubble is my new jam. The five o'clock look it's great and no more "fresh stubble" irritation. Feels good man.
>>
>>677908817
You're the exception. A damn lucky exception.
>>
>>677909204
I recommend Astra greens/blue or personna platinum. Those are the only blades that I trust. Feather is something I use when I haven't shaved in months, but damn Feather can be a real shit blade after its first use. Pretty overrated imo.
>>
>>677909204
>I have a parker long handle but I have big hands.
Get a futur, merkur 39 or a Joris razor anon. I have pretty big hands too and find Joris to be perfect since its got a bigger handle and an aggressive head to it.

Rub that shit on your face and you're good to go.
Plus you don't even have to soak your brush if it's synthetic.
>>

>Don't you need like a little bowl n shit.
I usually just lather it directly into the face. Bowl is more of an option.

Does using different lather than can cream REALLY make a difference? I've still got my old style safety razor so I could give it another try.

I use aloe can from a can, then post shave I use after shave gel and I don't get irritation with the fusion.

Ikon 102 is a bad ass slant! Used it today!
>>
>>677910985
>Do I even need a brush?
Yes. Almost any shaving soaps and creams that don't come in an aerosol can needs to be lathered by a brush. For me, the quality of a brush isn't really an issue, there are different types such as badger hair, boar hair and synthetic. I'd recommend getting a cheap a badger and practice with it.
>>
>>677910985
Yes you do need a brush to lather it up, that's what makes the difference. It's the stuff that makes it foam from your can that you're trying to avoid.

I'll say it one last time, I swear I'm not trying to shill for them but, if you don't know what the fuck you're doing, get a Razorock plissoft. They're cheap and are just as good as all the high quality synthetics.

If you really do want to see a big difference, get some quality soap.
Hell, get a good cream, Taylor of Old Bond or whatever the fuck, lather it up directly on your face, and you'll see.
>>
>>677911319

Not paying 45 bucks for a months worth of shaves when I can spend 15 on over a years worth.

Everyone else go for a good shave soap and for sure get a Silvertip badger brush. Badger brushes are so much better then boar or synthetic. It takes 30 seconds to whip a good lather and apply it once you get used to it. I love using a bay rum soap to shave.
>>
>>677911955
I thought of getting an Ikon but they are expensive as fuck and are always in low quantities. Tried going to dealers but they say they're always sold out on them. Where'd you get yours?

>>
>>677912130
>Not paying 45 bucks for a months worth of shaves

Dude, the hell are you taking about.

Either you don't clean your rqzors when you're done, or your hair is basically steel wool.
>>
>>677899012
yeah, i have the slant...saftey razors are the only way i can shave without getting razor burn.
>>
You can buy 100 razor blades for like $10 Astra plat, solid blades. Will last you for a year or more.
>>
once you figure your shit out and you buy good blades you won't ever go back. closer shaves, better shaves, easier, faster, and cheaper by far.
>>
Ya I think I like my badger hair brush better than my semogue boar hair.
>>
>>677913347
Yeah, Astra Platinum usually lasts me for a good week, week and a half.
That's more than two year's blades for 10$.
>>
>>677912937
I paid 30 for my silvertip. And I love it and have been using it for 5 years now. I soak clean it every few months and toss conditioner on it every few weeks to.
>>
Gillette is ripping people off with these disposable shavers. Seriously over priced and underwhelming.
>>
I switch between a shavette and my Parker R22. But I've been wet shaving for over two years. I'm never going back. I use two safetey razors at about a blade a month and I still haven't gotten through my second box of Astra platinum premiums. It's insane. I have the receipt from Maggard from two years ago, $117.74, two years and I am still not even close to running out of supplies.
>>
>>677913759
Give it time, boar takes a while to break in, but once it'll be done, you'll be glad you waited.
Soak/Lather/Dry every other day for a while, you'll see, the hair will split and it will get much better. Give it a month at least.
>>
So what blades guys I need to order new ones. I've used Shark super chrome and their quality has gone down. I want a very sharp blade I can get three shaves out of if not better
