Do you really WANT to be away from your family? Like is there some reason you had to leave? I did the same thing at 17 and decided to move back home until 20 after a year away. If you have to stay buy some speakers and play netflix shows/nature documentaries/podcasts/director commentary versions of your favorite movies. Getting a low maintenance pet like a fish or hermit crabs if you're working or going to school and can't give a dog or cat the attention they need and deserve. Also just get out of the apartment more. A movie alone or a walk in a park or a museum will be a lot better than sitting in the apartment in silence and you might meet some friends.

Agree on the pet bit. If you're alone a dog might be a better bet. I was a cat person for a long time but recently got a dog (Cavoodle) and you're never alone. Use the time to get to know yourself - you need to be able to enjoy your own company.

When I moved out I made the mistake of picking a town in Northern Utah but at least it was a college town so there was always something to do.

If what I'm gathering your parents are paying for you to go to a prestigious high school away from home? I'm some random stranger on the internet but these are critical years for your growth as a person, in my opinion it's important to be as comfortable and mentally healthy as you can be in these years and it might help to be back with family. Part of the reason I moved back home was so my little sister had someone to relate to and talk with as she tackles high school. People shouldn't expect you to have a life path laid out at this age, some do but many don't. I've changed paths and tried new things more than I can count now, life constantly changes and evolves and you may not want what you wanted even 6 months ago. I've lost my train of thought but if you're feeling like you want to head back home, don't let people discourage you from pursuing that.

Living alone sucks but you can do whatever you want. Your spot, your rules. You can walk around naked if you want. The first thing you should do is get internet installed asap so you can access Netflix, YouTube, etc. Depending on your views, you might look into getting a weed hook up.
