About to download Tor. Any experienced Tor users care to share anything I should know?
>>
After visiting a sketchy site, generate a new IP.
>>
>>677523078
Got it. I don't plan on visiting extremely sketchy sites-I'm not going darkweb here-there are just a few things I want to do that I don't necessarily want traced to me.
>>
Bumpan. Anyone else have helpful info for a first timer?
>>
Yeah, stay the fuck away from TOR... It's not safe anymore, regardless of what everyone says.
>>
>>677525165
Care to elaborate? Or point me in the direction of a better security option?
>>
>>677525470
The FBI busted it. Tor can't hide you anymore
>>
>>677526440
Is there anything that works as well as or close to what Tor used to?
>>
Bump. Any Tor alternatives?
>>
>>677527608
why? what are you doing?

TOR, the government's favorite honeypot
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ2OZKitRwc
>>
You can use it for internet stuff.
>>
>>677525470
>>677526440
This is exactly why. They have access to several nodes through which your connection will be passing. I'm staying away from onions, and haven't looked for an alternative.
>>
>>677527710
>What are you doing
cmon anon, isnt it obvious?
>>
>>677527710
Just shit I don't want traced to me. May be in a legal grey area, but nothing that would get me imprisoned or anything. Mostly just stuff that I don't want anyone knowing about, that's all.
>>
>>677528053
no
>>
>>677528213
vpn like pia + tor and ur fine
>>
Were there ever legit gun sellers on tor? Almost all, if not all were scammers
>>
how is i2p at the moment?
>>
>>677528053
Far from the obvious lol. I'm not a pedo or a criminal or a drug addict or anything. I honestly just don't want anyone finding out about one exploit in particular because I would be demonized and put down as a perv. And let's be honest-what I'm planning on doing is pretty pervy. But that doesn't mean I want to be labeled a pervert by my friends or family, ya know?
>>
>>677528496
How's the Muslim invasion going, faggot? Don't worry, I'll pray for you to not get bombed.
>>
>>677528363
Plus Tor? Wouldn't I want to stay completely away from Tor if it's been compromised?
>>
>>677528890
Tor always had problems by it's nature. Still harder to trace than a normal browser and if your going through a vpn then you'll just get traced back to that.
>>
The os tails is quite good as well. Also you can encrypt your whole harddrive and store the bootloader on a usb stick in case it gets seized. How secure do you need to be?
>>
>>677529458
Okay-but lemme ask you this. Why use Tor at all? Why not just use pia?

>>677528767
no need to lie on an anonymous chinese imageboard anon
As long as you're behind 7 proxies you're fine
>>
>>677529805
it's safer to use both the more obfuscation in the trail the better
>>
>>677529789
Haha not THAT secure. Like I said, I'm not going to do anything that can have me imprisoned or...really, anything that the police or any other organization will get involved in either. All I want is for my web traffic and downloads and such not to be traceable to me. Or that it's very very difficult to trace to me. I don't think there's anything that makes tracing completely impossible.
>>
>>677529805

Certain tor features, like disabling bits of javascript supports. For example google and facebook have both tested javascript based keystroke fingerprinting (taking the delay between keystrokes/ how long people take to type certain words and using this to identify people).
>>
Do you only get traced if your from usa?
>>
>>677530376
Think about it: When you're downloading, there is a beginning point, and an endpoint. On Tor, there are points in between... but guess what the endpoint is? Your IP.
>>
>>677530289
Ah, ok. I still might choose to run pia with something other than tor just so I'm not using a honeypot at all
>>
Well as they say Tor isn't as safe as it used to be. I have tails OS which is quite good and a paid vpn on top.
Don't cross the line with whatever you're about to do.
>>
>>677530620
not how the internet works. There are in-between points either way. Your request will at least be going to your isp then to a dns server
>>
>>677530620
Right. Which is why I said I don't think there's anything that makes tracing impossible. But tor seemed to make it pretty damn close, from what I understand. At least in its earlier days. And a good vpn will also make it harder to find out the ip of the person who downloaded the file, yeah?
>>
>>677531212
Right, it's not impossible. Further, if You're on Windows, you are NEVER EVER anonymous. I don't care how many VPNs, nodes and proxies you're using.
>>
>>677531013
Thanks for the sound advice, anon. I definitely don't plan on going that far. I honestly don't really even want to go very far-if at all-into the deep web. There's just one thing I want to do that most likely wouldn't get me into any massive legal trouble, but would make my friends and family pretty fuckin disappointed if they ever found out.
>>
can anyone tell me how to fix this page loading problem i was on a website then after like 30 mins i keep getting this page loading problem... unless the website is down
>>
>>677531621
Well if that's true, I'm not gnna waste my time. Because what I want to do isn't worth setting up and learning a new OS or getting a new machine. Can anyone verify the validity of this claim?
>>
IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO ACCESS THE DEEP WEB unless you're doing something illegal. However dont use windows. Download The TAILS OS and boot it on a thumb drive. You may need to take extra precautions if you're interested in the illegal activities. Most importantly be cautious. "when in doubt, don't"
>>
>>677531645
at least give us a brief explanation of what you're looking to do?
>>
>>677528767
you're on an anonymous board anon just tell us we won't judge

tbh some of us have probably done worse things
>>
>>677531924
I can't validate my own claim, but look up telemetry data. It's added now to 7, 8 and 8.1, and is built into 10. Just look into it.
>>
>>677527979
Get a VPN (paid with bitcoins) outside of US jurisdiction. They won't be able to do shit
>>
>>677528363
PIA will give you up in a heartbeat. They've done it before, stay away from them.
>>
If your not from usa are you okay?
>>
>>677531924

Sort of. Windows connects to microsoft services a lot and reports data. Flash player is also a massive risk as is javscript (and even custom fonts have presented a security problem on windows) .

You don't need a new machine or to install a new os. Get an 8gb usb stick and just live boot of that.
>>
>>677532049
>>677532075
Sorry guys, I'm not gnna do that. If that's gnna kill the thread, so be it-I've learned a lot already. But it's truly not a big deal, and by hiding it and being this openly paranoid about it this whole time, I'd be laughed out of the thread and it would die anyway.
>>
>>677531924
Well I wouldn't write this off just yet anon. Using the Tails OS you don't have to really learn anything. You'll be booting into it to use the browser and not really screwing with any of the Linux side of things. Plus from what I've read earlier, seeing as you're not doing anything high profile, tor shouldn't be too big of an issue for you. Small fish big ocean kinda deal.

>>
Why not just go somewhere where there's free wifi and go through tor there? If it somehow gets noticed and traced, A you don't live there and B hard to tell who did it especially if there's no cameras.
>>
>>677528767
is it a new pb exploit?
>>
>>677532839
I'll definitely look into that. And possibly a VPN to go with it.
>>
>>677533086
You'd want to spoof your mac if you're doing that.
PAGY sims under fake names are also good but android leaks loads of data
>>
>>677533086
He'd have to make sure that it's not a network that you have to sign into. They copy your MAC address.
>>
>>677533435
Yeah true. I know public libraries tend to just have their networks open for anyone to connect. I mean, if he's doing something THAT illegal where he'd have to use all precautions then he'd probably want to write off tor altogether. But it sounded like OP's doing some lowkey stuff.
>>
>>677533193
punching bag? pork n beans? peanut butter? lead?
>>
>>677533203
and don't sign up to the VPN with your own email ;)
>>
>>677532708
Who cares. The whole point of a chan is to remain anonymous and speak freely.
Just tell us, nobody gives a shit in the end.
>>
If you're going on anything seriously sketchy set up a good vpn, firewall and always have you're antivirus running. Also considering getting a vm
>>
>>677533972
He's going to download cp, he just doesn't want to get arrested it's obvious
>>
>>677533971

listen you morons...TOR isn't "hacked". There so much traffic going on in the deepweb that no one gives a shit...Unless Ross Ulbricht with a huge sign on your back.

Use a vpn, tails + TOR on a public wifi and you will be fine! Fucking pussies.
>>
>>677522533
it's like aids only abstinence is the only 100% safe way not to get any infection even with double condom. I personally haven't visited the dark web in a few years, I really didn't find it interesting then again I browsed some hacking forums which i was interested, but it's probably obsolete technology by now. The only safe way that I think it might be safe besides abstinence is, if you could program an OS whos architecture was different every 10^987 nano seconds and being at all places at once, then they wont be able to detect you, that is assuming you program your own internet browser that has the same characteristics of https/ the only way this is achievable is if you had a quantum processor, which probably won't be in commercial use until few decades from now. An idea how this is possible with todays technology is Sloot Digital Coding System

Stay safe.

Not OP, but I have used Tor for music/movies for years and recently I saw someone say that Freenet is better for that. Is there any truth to that?

Your browser reports your screen size to the server.
http://whatsmy.browsersize.com/
>>
>>677537700
So surely all it's giving away is what browser you're using. Isn't the TOR browser just a modified Firefox anyway?
Can't see what use the information woukd be to anyone.
>>
>>677537507
This is reported via javascript which you should have enabled anyway if you want to browse anonymously as it can report all kinds of things. Without javascript you can only get a few things such as language which can be spoofed anyway
