That is a top notch scifi flick right there.

It's a shame it didn't get as much hype as other shitty movies.

Edge of Tomorrow should have made Avatar money. I'm glad studios are sill willing to take a chance on some out there ideas.

I like Event Horizon.

Um...no. It's about as generic and cliché as a modern movie can get. There is no emotion to it and it's 90% animated.
Maybe for a kid, sure - I'm sure it's a great gateway action/sci-fi film. But as far as ranking it up there with "the best", absolute bollucks.
>>
There's always this list, so long as you don't mind animation included.

Good fucking call, Anon, re-acquainted myself with this cyberpunk classic a while back.

I'm bring the Tetsuo series to the table: #1 was great, #2 even better, but #3 is a disappointment, it is hard to see exactly what is going on as Tsukamoto has opted to use crappy camera tricks (as seen on some of the recent superhero movies) during fight scenes.

Lol. Butthurt much?

Tom Cruise is a solid actor, check out Oblivion, especially if you like sci-fi. If that doesn't do it, go to the clasics ie; Alien or The Thing, both God Tier.

Call me a faggot but Cloud Atlas is a deep, thought provoking film with some complex subplots. I had to watch it twice to completely understand it.

10/10 would recommend if you can survive the 3 hours of it
>>
>>677487700
Why would you even pay/download that movie?
Chloe is not an action movie actor and the movie has the typical "hot guy" cliche who trains chloe how to shoot so she can rescue her brother from aliens, another "I do anything for family" cliche.
I don't know when I would watch it, maybe when really, really, drunk and just end up masturbating to sweet Chloe.

The reviews described it as 'one lone girl defeats all the aliens', and I assumed it'd be akin to a superhero flick, with loads of asskicking, so I was prepared to sacrifice a plot for some violent action and fun - but it was sorely disappointing. I'm not a fan of Chloe but think she's good, and this convinced me to give it a go - I never thought her agents would let her take this trainwreck on.

It was a decent action flick, but come on.
Also, it was barely a scifi movie. It was a slightly futuristic soldiers vs aliens action movie with an interesting time travel component.
Also event horizon is just straight up garbage.

I got almost exactly what I expected. Some godzilla-esque monster vs robot action.
But still, I found it extremely boring. The fights were just so clumsy and awkward, while the rest of the movie was just forgettable.

Eh, I don't know.
From just listing the content, yeah, it sounds like a scifi movie.
But I think, a scifi movie is something that heavily draws it's appeal from the science fiction components.
I don't know if I'm making sense here, but let's say you remade saving private Ryan shot for shot, but instead of germans, they fight aliens.
It wouldn't be a scifi movie in my opinion. That's how I felt about edge of tomorrow.
But maybe I'm jsut talking out of my ass here.
>>
>>677490314
I thought the fights were cool. The robots were slow and bulky, but not too slow. And it would make sense for them to be slow, they're giant robots.

I disliked the fact that they fight aliens by just fucking punching them.
I mean, what the hell, give them a proper weapon other the plot sword that they didn't use for 90% of the movie.
This is just my opinion, but I also disliked the tone of the movie. It felt like a saturday morning cartoon, when it could have been something greater.

It's not that complex, the book it's also not that complex, it had a lot of potential wasted in a story that leads nowhere and has cookie fortune philosophy.
Aslo, if you needed 2 views, you need a new brain.

Watch the one that came out a few years ago first, then watch the classic with Kurt Russel. Keep in mind the Kurt Russel movie wasn't the original The Thing from Another World was which came out in 1951.

You mean the 2011 The Thing it ruined the franchise.....the cgi, the flat note characters, the easy to tell who is the thing, acts like a prequel when has elements in it to make it's it own alternate movie.

I enjoy the alien series and Predator. Bill Paxton was actually in both franchises.

Can anyone recommend some Sci-fi horror movies especially with comedy. Horror -Comedy is hard to find other than the Evil Dead series. I love the genre.

>>677498302
It's not really a remake, it's just another Judge Dredd film but far more grounded as opposed to trying to get in the full Big Meg Experience. Personally I thought the first one was pretty good except Rob Schneider was a fucking albatros.

no.

Sort of... It is actually Science Fantasy more so. The reason being that Star Wars focuses on the spiritual aspects of their universe more than the scientific nature of it. In Science Fiction, the primary focus of the work is the "why" as to how things work. In SW, things just work and they aren't often explained or focused upon.
>>
>>677504043
It's a space opera, so yeah it's scifi.

Did you saw the movie? Sure, it works with completely digital effects but the history it's pretty interesting and the whole premise of Tom Cruise character being a pussy general with no experience makes it more original than a lot of action movies.
>>
>>677504635
Some of the older books I have that take a more serious and technical approach to scifi label themselves hard science fiction.
Those that deal with mostly social consequences of high tech are social science fiction and those with a more relaxed attitude soft science fiction. According to wikipedia these are all valid categories but I haven't seen them used in the last 20 years. Still if you wann google for stuff maybe that helps
>>
>>677490324
Weird movie. I wasn't blown away by the premise but it totally makes sense and it was a good watch.
