I think it's awesome and we're currently being underwhelmed by it because science fiction of the 80's and 90's robbed us of experiencing a sort of paradigm shift.

I'm an old ass fuck (32) and I remember the first time this was going to be a "thing". This was in the early/mid 90's when there were all of these shit fucking video game systems coming out (3do, Jaguar, Cd-i) and was about a year or so before the Playstation was released. We had the stupid as fuck LAWNMOWER MAN movie try to show how awesome VR was going to be. There were also these huge video game showcases that would tour around with all the shit systems and a VR simulator. The line was so long for it I couldn't try it, but I asked a few people what they thought (i was like 11 at this time) and most were like "eh..."

Playstation came out and everyone forgot about VR and were all about 3-D polygon games.

The technology just was not there at the time and in the 20-22 years since then it looks like we might FINALLY have the technology for actually GOOD VR.

I really don't care right now. I don't want to try it out because I really don't want to get addicted to this shit which is what I am afraid is going to happen. Again these worries were happening with the original shit VR in the 90's but it was so terrible that it didn't happen.

So yea, conflicted feelings. I'm back in college going towards a masters (or possibly PHD) in psychology, specifically addictions counseling, and this stuff scares the shit outta me. If I was 11 again, I would be doing this shit all day. I hated grade school and used games as an outlet, but it wasn't everything.

But to add clarity to the last post, my issue is that video games are already time sinks in many ways, but VR could be on a whole other level. I think it's amazing the technology has come so far in 20 years, I just personally am too old for this shit. The 12 year old me would probably be going insane with the prospect of VR games and VR Porn.

I bet that in the DSM 6 (probably will be out in 2025) there will be a host of mental disorders related to VR addiction or some other mental maladies related to VR. Internet gaming disorder is in the new(ish) DSM 5 because of world of warcrack.

Imagine when they finally release the fucking MMORPG VR - It will be like that stupid fucking sword art online anime except even more terrible

I was sceptical about it until I tried it.
Playing Half-Life 2 on DK2 was the greatest gaming experience of my life, and turned me into true believer.

Sure it's far from perfect now, but wait few more years for 4k headsets and content from AAA developers, it's gonna get good.

Got my VR gear today actually. It's pretty cool. A lot better than I expected.
Nothing like anything that's come before it.
This really is the future, when the Playstation thing comes out later this year everything will be different.
