I've consistently had less fun with skein every time I revisit it than morrowind and oblivion. While skyrim is good, yes, it simply feels like it's lacking a certain internal consistency, and that makes it difficult for me to get into.

The threat feels less pressing, the exploration feels more like a checklist, the dungeon design is piss-poor, and the additions to the lore for the sake of gameplay just make the whole thing feel less real.
