I was born in a poor area. My parents back then lived in a housing project (houses belonging to the State for people who couldn't afford their own homes). However they were very demanding of me in terms of school and grades. Nowadays I have a PhD and a very selective profession.

My grades started falling and one day I felt so bad that I had a suicide attempt. I am nor proud of that.

During my teens (between 15 y.o-18 y.o) I did not suffer abuse at all but I was very shy and reserved. My family (who are all extroverts) thought of me as some kind of a retard back then. I used to hide in my city's library and read and write in my free time. I had two experiences with drinking which went awry.

I always considered it as an alternative to sex change.
Take a couple of pills and go from woman in a mans body, to gay or even straight.
While the alternative would be to cut up and around my body until it sort of resembles the body that I'd like to have but not really, since my physiology doesn't match my self identified gender and the whole gender specific organs thing will likely still take a very long time.
Personally I would always opt for the pill, maybe I'd be a bit more careful if they have strong long time effects.
