Engine is not like any other engine it requires more TLC than others. I know RX8's have to be redlined at least once a week or month or something like that, also you need to read up on how to properly turn off/on the car without flooding. Once flooded you either need to tow to a shop for a de flooding or do it yourself on the spot. Nothing worse than taking a girl on a date and flooding that car on the way back to your place. Ruins the mood.

I recommend you learn to wrench yourself if you cannot already. Don't get me wrong, mine is one of the most mechanically-sound cars on the road, but it's not one that had just been driven and driven with no upkeep.

When you test drive one you want, note the handling and how it pulls. If the price is low (teens/around around 100k miles), expect to put some money into it to prevent any future problems. If the price is rather steep (upper 20's to upper 30's, roughly 50k miles) then that should be one that has already had a complete overhaul.

Check for subframe issues.
AVOID SMG cars.
6MT ones have never had a failed tranny in the history of the generation.
