I play violin. Not terrible, but far from stellar. It's a hobby more than anything, so I barely practice and mostly just much around improvising anime theme songs. Pretty comfy.

I've been playing bass for 8 years, guitar for 6. I'd say I'm definitely a high ranged intermediate player for both.

I can read any bass or guitar chart and be able to walk/comp/follow melody easily thanks to a two year long jazz grind.

I mainly play jazz on my bass and metal on my gits. Been practicing at least 2 hours a day for the past 3 years, on and off before then.

-Crappy Washburn Bantam bass
-89' American Standard Strat
-Standard Ibanez S with SD pups
-Standard Ibanez RG seven string (Pictured)

I've played guitar forever, I can jam and improvise and play really fast and technical but I hate learning songs all the way through. I like playing drums and bass better. Guitar is gibson nighthawk, its hollow but looks like a solid body guitar.

yes most definitely. I played a six with .60 strings in B standard for a while and eventually fell in love with the lowness so just bought a 7. My RG is beyond amazing for it's price ($500). Some people go through a huge learning curve after getting a 7, taking like a year to get used to it, but I feel 100% comfortable on it. I think this is because I was so used to the tuning from by six being in b standard, so maybe start with that for a couple months, get used to it, then buy a 7.

As for 7 string guitars, you can never go wrong with an RG standard. amazing quality for the price and even the stock pups sound good. If you have money tho, definitely get an Ibanez Prestige.

Other than Ibanez, ESP has some good 7's, as does Legator and higher end Jacksons. All personal preference tho.

But yeah 7's are great, 10/10 highly recommend even if not into metal
>>
>>674849656
Sure. Use the leading edge, at a slight angle. During the down stroke, don't use too much pressure.
>>
>>674849426

>>
>>674849785

TAKE IT SLOW and watch the pinky and ring of your fretting hand. Do not let them curl.

Practice slowly with a metronome, that's the only way to be able to play it fast. Pick two arpeggios to sweep through, one major one minor (for varying sound so it isnt TOO boring), close together using top 5 strings.

Practice for 10 mins at very slow speed, paying attention to form and rhythm (WITH METRONOME). Take a break for 5 mins. Do same arpegs for 5 mins at same speed. Break for 5. Do same arpegs for 10 mins at slighty faster speed (15 bpm higher). Break for 5. Increase speed, practice 10 mins, break, increase, ect. Do daily.

IF YOU MESS UP OR PLAY OFF BEAT YOU'RE GOING TO FAST. SLOW DOWN.

Breaking is crucial too. Helps your brain fuse the muscle memory and gets in in your fingers easier

>>674847471
Is this you? I find it interresting

Guitar. Been playing for 7 years. My strongest point is improvising, so my theory is pretty good, and I like my phrasing right now.
I used to want to become really good at alternate picking, but I never really practiced. I'm left handed but I play guitar right handed so my right hand has always been weaker. So my style developed into a lot of legato and a whole lot of hybrid picking. Also I love Guthrie Govan so I stole some of his hybrid picking stuff
