What instrument does /b/ play, and how good would you describe yourself?
>Pic related, my current instrument and I'd say I'm okay, not amazing but fairly competent
i play bass and i can jam easily and i know all my notes ( i'm frenchie) so my english is fucking bad.sorry. i love metal ! and if you play a 7-string guitar i think you know what i'm talking about
I play guitar and keys. I'm ok. I record stuff but I don't gig, don't think I would gig. I used to play trumpet for about 9 years and was fantastic but I lost it all now. That's a handsome guitar OP
Drums
I can play good enough for me to be happy
>>674844122
Thanks, its actually only about USD200 but thank you
>>674843758
I feel ya and your English is pretty good, just work on capitalization and a little grammar.
I play violin. Not terrible, but far from stellar. It's a hobby more than anything, so I barely practice and mostly just much around improvising anime theme songs. Pretty comfy.
>>674844706
is there a cheep violin that's decent? i would love to learna bowed instrument, it's been a dream of mine for awhile
>>674844706
Can you sight read sheet music?
I've been playing bass for 8 years, guitar for 6. I'd say I'm definitely a high ranged intermediate player for both.
I can read any bass or guitar chart and be able to walk/comp/follow melody easily thanks to a two year long jazz grind.
I mainly play jazz on my bass and metal on my gits. Been practicing at least 2 hours a day for the past 3 years, on and off before then.
-Crappy Washburn Bantam bass
-89' American Standard Strat
-Standard Ibanez S with SD pups
-Standard Ibanez RG seven string (Pictured)
I wanna get a new 6 string, (pictured) is it too gaudy though
>>674845153
>>674845153
Hey man, could you give me a few suggestions of some jazz songs to play on bass? Really wanna get more into it!
Lead guitar/vocals. Gibson SGs are my fave, I have 4.
I play well enough, people are entertained.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eu8PMcBHnc
>>674845697
meh if that's your style, go for it man. I like the colors
>>674846073
Fantasy by Earth Wind and Fire arranged by Paul Murtha is a great one, so is Autumn Leaves (super classic, everyone should know how to play it). If you want a challange, check out Spain by Chic Corea. That one is super fun but pretty tricky
I've played guitar forever, I can jam and improvise and play really fast and technical but I hate learning songs all the way through. I like playing drums and bass better. Guitar is gibson nighthawk, its hollow but looks like a solid body guitar.
Xylophone here. Not big deal but have potencial ;)
>future marimba
>>674846574
I like it bro. The booty was good too. Personally I can't get into playing Gibsons. What appeals to you about them?
>>674846873
beautiful guitar. I can relate with the learning songs all the way through. Pretty boring imo, I'd rather write or jam through a chart
all of these but this is a shitty photo
>>674844122
comfy as hell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikvTBsnvoh4
>>674847108
Do you try and use your xylophone skills to pick up chicks?
>>674847186
Ha I've seen you around here. I would recommend selling all of those (given there's not too much sentimental value attached) and buying a good quality Ibanez rg/mexican strat and an acoustic. Quality over quantity, but that's just me
>>674847176
I got one off a guy 20 years ago for $300 in a bar. I've just been playing them ever since. Also, they're slim and clear the beer gut. Ha.
>>674843401
I Play a Fender jaguar. I'm not that good yet but I want to keep learning.
I've been playing trumpet for 8 years now
I play a lot of jazz and some concert music...I really like both
>Yahmaha Bobby Shew Custom Z
>>674843401
I came.
That's a sexy beast anon.
>>674847665
What music are you trying to learn? and have you taken any lessons?
>>674847935
There are much sexier guitars
>>674847650
Yeah man I love slim guitars. My S is super light and thin and it feels super nice, as is the neck on my rg. I often find myself in discomfort when playing my strat tbh. pretty heavy and feels unbalanced, not really my thing but i got it FOR FREE from my neighbor, so i obviously couldn't pass it up
>>674847643
hey i plan on getting something nice for myself in the coming months thanks for the recomendations
>>674848140

>>674847593
There are some "weird works (japanese, brazilians)" for this instrument and girls like it. You can use multiple percussion in a concert, too.
But I think other instruments are more attractive for women.
gonna dump some beauts
>>674847955
As of now just a bunch of Grateful Dead. I use to take lessons in ''09 but stopped in '11. I never practiced or anything at that time and was kinda ignorant to the fact that I had too. I'll probably start lessons again soon.
>>674848351
sexiest guitar
>>674843401
Banjo. Pretty high end player. There are better out there obviously, but I'd say I'm in the top third for sure.
>>674848351
Noiche.
Been thinking about getting a 7 string myself. Would you recommend?
Trombone
Pretty good
Lots of modern jazz
I play bass, the one pictured. I'm pretty mediocre.
>>674843401
skin flute
>>674848728
Depends, if you want a heavier sound then yes, but otherwise its a lot more money just to have that 7th string
What do you think about glass harp (cups of wine)? I want to do classical music in that instrument.
>beta as fuck?
>>674848643
Top third in the world, that is.
>>674843401
I do bass
I'm good
>>674849070
Would be cool as fuck, honestly
>>674849070
bro if you want to be god-tier take up the glass armonica. it's absolutely unique and gorgeous. prolly quite expensive though...
>>674849245
>all instruments vandalized with faggoty stickers
>"I'm good"
Yea, sure you are, kid. Come back when you graduate high school.
OP here, any guitar players have any tips for learning sweep picking
>>674848728
yes most definitely. I played a six with .60 strings in B standard for a while and eventually fell in love with the lowness so just bought a 7. My RG is beyond amazing for it's price ($500). Some people go through a huge learning curve after getting a 7, taking like a year to get used to it, but I feel 100% comfortable on it. I think this is because I was so used to the tuning from by six being in b standard, so maybe start with that for a couple months, get used to it, then buy a 7.
As for 7 string guitars, you can never go wrong with an RG standard. amazing quality for the price and even the stock pups sound good. If you have money tho, definitely get an Ibanez Prestige.
Other than Ibanez, ESP has some good 7's, as does Legator and higher end Jacksons. All personal preference tho.
But yeah 7's are great, 10/10 highly recommend even if not into metal
>>674849656
Sure. Use the leading edge, at a slight angle. During the down stroke, don't use too much pressure.
>>674849426
>expensive
That's the problem :( but you're right!
>>674849785
What about the upstroke
>>674849917
Well there too, but it's easier on the up stroke. Seems to flow easier.
>>674849245
How do you like your thunderbird? I'm considering getting one for gigs cause the one I use for recording has taken a few hard hits and I don't want it to get worse than it already is.
>>674843401
Celtic harp. And sucks hard. Hard instrument and you must study in a classical harp...
>>674850368
Currently have a yamaha trbx504
>>674848234
I've got a strat, Jaguar, mosrite knockoff, few others, but the SGs are mostly all I pick up.
>>674850422
Shit dude thats impressive
Drums
>average at best
Electric Guitar
>below average
Piano
>just started learning
>Obsessed with music theory atm for some reason
I havnt really played guitar or drums for ages but getting back into it
>>674849656
TAKE IT SLOW and watch the pinky and ring of your fretting hand. Do not let them curl.
Practice slowly with a metronome, that's the only way to be able to play it fast. Pick two arpeggios to sweep through, one major one minor (for varying sound so it isnt TOO boring), close together using top 5 strings.
Practice for 10 mins at very slow speed, paying attention to form and rhythm (WITH METRONOME). Take a break for 5 mins. Do same arpegs for 5 mins at same speed. Break for 5. Do same arpegs for 10 mins at slighty faster speed (15 bpm higher). Break for 5. Increase speed, practice 10 mins, break, increase, ect. Do daily.
IF YOU MESS UP OR PLAY OFF BEAT YOU'RE GOING TO FAST. SLOW DOWN.
Breaking is crucial too. Helps your brain fuse the muscle memory and gets in in your fingers easier
>>674847471
Is this you? I find it interresting
Guitar. Been playing for 7 years. My strongest point is improvising, so my theory is pretty good, and I like my phrasing right now.
I used to want to become really good at alternate picking, but I never really practiced. I'm left handed but I play guitar right handed so my right hand has always been weaker. So my style developed into a lot of legato and a whole lot of hybrid picking. Also I love Guthrie Govan so I stole some of his hybrid picking stuff
Baritone player, in college. March drum corps. Sucks playing an obscure instrument
>>674850422
Welsh fag here.
Any pics of the harp?
>>674851210
So you're in it for the pussy? You're no musician. You're a fucking wannabe.
>Trombone: 12 years, mostly jazz, play in my community jazz band
>Guitar: 10 years mostly lead guitar sometimes rhythm, play metal and campfire songs
>Bass: 4 years, punk and metal music
>Flute: 2 years just started playing so I could learn a woodwind instrument, not very good, my trombone embouchure is to blame as well as not playing very often
>>674850368
ahhh.... The tone is actually fuckin killer, but i can't stand the fucking neck. it's a FAT neck. Don't like it one bit
my jazz is my "playing" bass. slim neck- all stock, great tone though.

Guitar. I make a living by playing and teaching guitar. Lot of people told me I play really good. But deep inside, I just feel like untalented shitty player who listens to too much people with shitty taste.
>>674849426
>Only a handful of people can play it and their not very good.
My vocal cords. Literally the best.

This is my #1.
>how good would you describe yourself
Ritchie Blackmore said I was "Very good".
Who am I to argue with him.
>>674850902
yeah this
>>674851734
Fuck, I wanna learn the pipes so bad. I've heard that trying to learn solo with a chanter is a bad idea though. Everything I've read said you NEED to learn from another player, face to face.

Are you the gril?

no one pays to see you play, wittle bitch

>>674844122
.....Just to be clear you have a home recording studio and you play with sub-400$ fucking instruments? Dude. Priorities
>>674851977
Except for when they do.
>>674852076
Being able to record is not the same as having a home studio.
>>674852076
Tone is one thing, but if dude is good, skillwise let him be
>>674849245
You ruined your beautiful P-basses by putting shitty stickers on them. Why the fuck do people like this exist?
>>674849426
another weird but amazing instrument is the musical saw
pic related
>>674851905
It is possible to learn the basics by yourself. There are probably some good youtube vids out there these days. But there are a lot of nuances that you really can't master without an instructor. If you wanna just be able to say you can play bagpipes, learn on your own; if you wanna actually get good, get lessons
>>674852245
Take another look at that photo buddy. That's had some decent money and effort put into it
>>674852090
you keep tellin yourself that buddy
Her name is Javiela. She cheated on me for a few months before I figured it all out. It hurts like a bitch and it's my time for payback. >>674851657
Yeah I've played both the fenders you have pictured. They're great. I was saving up to get a fender p bass but I was curious about the thunderbird. Your input really seals the deal, though.
>>674846574
Shitty copy of The Locust?
>>674852020
>Pfft. Yea right. Fucking liar.
Whatever, Junior.
I guess if I told you I've jammed with Eddie VanHalen you'd think that was a lie also.

Bless you my child.
>>674848643
I always wanted to ask banjo player "How do you think about Bela Fleck?"
>>674852790
I mean if you have a budget you could do a Gibson.
But nah- the Epiphone are shit.
actually Google "Fenderbird"
It's what John Entwhistle would play.
Not my picture but this is my instrument
>in b4 not a real telecaster
>>674852090

Both prove. Post links to shows and /b/ will judge.
I play guitar, I'm alright. Not great, used to be better but I seriously injured my left hand and had to put it down for a couple years
