does any of you fuckers have a mechanical keyboard? i'm thinking of getting one, what are your experiences?
>>
Tactile feedback is great, and the clicking sound makes you sound like you are on a typewriter
>>

but is it worth like $100?

Whatever you do, do not get a Q-pad MK85. Mine broke after a month without any sort of damage to it and the windows key didn't work since day one.

Own an older Das (no media keys) with Brown switches, and i love it. Just wish the USB slots weren't on the right of the thing.

Get Corsair K70 blue switches. I've got it and my job involves typing during the whole day, totally recomended.

CM Quickfire here with Cherry MX Blues. I'd suggest going on YouTube and looking up different switch sounds and stuff. See which one sounds the best to you, and get a board with it. As for me, i love Cherry MX Blues and Browns.

OP, get one. You will not regret it. My typing speed has doubled since getting one and i love typing on it.
>>
>>674793162
writing this on a das keyboard type s ultimate. but das is a bit too pricey for what you get. i'm getting a pok3r, 60% boards are tight and ergonomically sound but take some getting used to. do you know what switch you want?

Corsair K70 RGB Cherry Mx Brown user here.

Mechanical Keyboards are worth it if you use one a lot. You'll definitely be able to tell the difference in using one and all in all, if you buy the right one that fits your niche, it's worth it.

I got browns because I love the tactile feedback as well as how it's a lot more quieter than the others. It's more a typist switch than a gamer one, and since I type more a lot more than I game, I chose that one.

Since I've got it I haven't regretted owning it at all.

My college roommate has one and they're loud as fuck. Besides that they generally look neat but require some getting used to as it may temporoarily slow your typing ability due to the deeper buttons.
>>
take a look at geekhack dot org and deskthority dot net, but once you go down the rabbit hole there is no way back

Red and black are shit for typing, well i like black but not many people do. those are mainly considered gaming switches.
>>

>>

>>
I use a razor, I like it a lot.
>>
>>674793527
well after a first round of looking through the switches, i was thinking greetech blue since i'm mostly alone when typing so noise won't be an issue
i'm a little concerned all of them will be a bit too bulky for me, but if the typing is really as good, it might be worth it
>>

>>
corsair and ducky are pretty good and easy to find razer is plastic crap dont listen to these plebs
>>
Real talk, Do a typing speed test. 10fastfingers is a popular one. If you arent getting at least 80 on that with a membrane keyboard, you cant get the most out of a mechanical keyboard. You also want to stay away from razer etc as they use kalih mechanical switches you really want Cherry MX switches.

Blue = loud but tactile popular for gaming and typing

brown are the quieter slightly less tactile blues.

the rest are really only for specialists.

the Cm quickfire tk is a good first swuare into mechanical keyboards. Stay away from modern ducky shines too (shine 4 +), the build quality in them is terrible and they cost a fortune regardless.
>>

Mechanical Keyboards are a new experience for videogames, internet and work.
I payed for it 65€, and I have a keyboard with a good quality, and an excellent performance.

you don't really notice the noise if youre wearing headphones or some shit
oh yeah and if you like listening to music while you do other shit on your computer those media controls are really nice

I got a razer, first bought one for work where I type the most then one backlit at home. Lots of noise but its must better and I love to annoy my coworkers anyway
>>

I think you're missing the point. I have a mechanical keyboard with MXblue switches, it's probably audible downstairs if I have my door open. It's pretty awkward.

good keboard, i had one of those before my das.

off subject, it looks cool, but i can't stand keyboards mounted under the top of the desk. i could never do it. it makes my hands feel claustrophobic and like i cant see what im doing. lol idk why, but those desks really bother me. i use a geek desk (sit/stand) with everything on the main level.

>>674790498
if you want a keyboard for gaming a mechanical one is not the one imo
I got a steel series apex: http://uk.pcmag.com/steelseries-apex/325/review/steelseries-apex#disqus

the keys are so low profile and there is a lot of anti ghosting on most used keys you can slide your fingers across the keys rather than pressing them, meaning faster keystrokes and reaction times.
its got a membrane key set up too rather. good keyboard I think.
I have had it for over 3 years I wont replace it until it dies
>>
>>674797139
total BS. All pro's use mechanical keyboards. membrane boards dont have nkro, they last a considerably less long and have to be bottomed out to activate. and ghosting is a bitch with membrane boards.

They're popular because meme brands like Razor put blue switches in the keyboard because of novelty.

You're literally dumb as fuck if you buy a keyboard with blue switches for gaming. If you don't understand why, then you're not at liberty to give any constructive advice here.
>>
>>674798673
Why the fuck would I want to light up the keys I game with? If I'm playing stuff, I never look at the keyboard.
>>
>>674797083
Read the article. I said first mechanical keyboard, really you want cherry, and kalih switches are just cherry chinese clones with a higher fail rate. And under the sub category blues and browns are really his best choices since they're the most stocked, and most manufacturers make them in those formats. They're also the most popular for gaming along with personally being the most satisfying for me.
>>
>>674793400
>loud as fuck

it's mechanical it's not going to be quiet?

if you wanted quiet you should have got a shitty chicklet keyboard

and those sounds? they're for button recognition i.e letting you know you pressed a key
>>
>>674797632
>if you want a keyboard for gaming a mechanical one is not the one imo
IMO! in my opinion
for me the time it takes to press a mechanical key fully rather than slide my hand over WASD and123XCVZ is longer and gives me less reaction times especially in fps games. it makes it more convenient, sliding rather than pressing
>>
>>674798657

>>
>>674798894

>>
>>674799076
I've had one for years, and never found that function to be in the least bit useful. Muscle memory is way faster than glancing down at a lit key. I find the raised bits on the home key row to be way more useful if I've taken my hand off the keyboard for whatever reason (grabbing a drink etc), since I don't need my eyes to find that.
>>
>>674798894
the 123456 and wasd keys are also textured differently to the others

the bump you are talking about is part of the brown and blue slider, there is a ledge there.
the slider on the red and black one is smooth all the way through NO FUCKING BUMP

Every switch has different characteristics

blue and brown have the same spring different slider,
red and brown have the same slider but one a lighter spring than the aforementioned and black heavier.

you obv dont know your shit if you say all mech keys have a BUMP or tactile feedback as they call it
and you dont have to bottom out to activate the switch

Love them. I'd recommended looking into what type of keyswitches you might like. Personally I have the Corsair K70 RGB backlit with Cherry MX Brown switched.

Yes. I could never go back to membrane. I have blue, consider something the key that has a tactile feel but doesn't make sound, forgot the colorcode. It's worth it, you're worth it.

Did you miss the part where this metric has no actual factual value?
Reading then typing isnt a test of your typing ability. Telling you to write a 50 word paragraph with pulling shit out of your head, is what matters

Sounds the best? Holy shit don't listen to this guy. Switches actually mean something other than sound. Cherry brown switches register your press half way down. Blues need a full press.

Does anyone have some experience with black switches? I know they need more force than others, but are they suited for writing and fps games? Do the 60g actuation force hinder you from quick reaction times in game and will you get used to it when you're writing an essay? Thanks in advance.

With shine im not getting past 140, but as another anon said - the 0 error thing makes you look exceptionally like you're cheating there. Sure i type fast but i also make mistakes i can just correct those mistakes fast. Im not saying its not legit but its unrealistic. Also on that website the top scorers still always make mistakes.
