Help me settle a discussion.

Do Americans wear shoes at home? Or is that only a thing from TV because well, they're actors on a set.
>>
I'm armerican and I'm not wearing any shoes
>>
>>674770834
My gf and I are both american. And neither of us wear shoes in house.
>>
>>674770834

some americans allow shoes to be worn in their homes. most people i know have a shoes off policy because of carpet
>>
>>674770834
good question
>>
>>674770834
me personally, i dont wear shoes or socks if im home alone. but im with people at my house shoes all the way. makes me feel weird being shoeless around people kek.
>>
its common but the culture is changing, shoes are becoming less worn while inside a home.
>>
i take mine off when i come through the front door, but i am the only one in my family who does. i wear my socks in people's homes unless they tell me to leave my shoes on.
>>
>>674770834
What an utterly bizarre thing to ask.
We all know that Amerifats have no feet , just cankles. ......
>>
>>674770834
we wear shoes unless we want to take them off

go fuck a donkey you stupid indian fuck
>>
I mean I wear shoes sometimes if I'm not planning on sitting around or if it's really cold.
>>
>>674770834
I've known people who wear shoes inside but they mostly have hardwood floors
>>
>>674770834

Nope, we take our shoes off. Most of us do anyway. There's always that weird guy that wears them everywhere and wants to keep them on for sex.

Yup
>>
It's not custom here to always take off shoes at the door entrance. So yes, Americans just wipe their shoes off on a mat and pretty much just enter a home with them on. I personally think it's gross, at my place it's shoes off before coming in. That's seen as Asian custom but tbh it's just common sense.
>>
>>674770834
i allso woner
>>
>>674771296
Second. Grew up with hardwood floors, and always wear shoes in the house. Also helps with not stubbing toes on chair/table legs, stepping in glass if you break one, etc.
>>
>>674771342
I'm the weird guy who wears them everywhere because my socks have holes in them and my feet smell, and I don't have sex.
>>
>>674770834
americans shit in toilets rather than the walking paths so wearing shoes inside is no big deal
>>
>>674771445
Chacos
>my nigga
>>
>>674770834

It is considered respectful not to track outside shit all over someone else's domicile. The only people invited into our homes that usually don't are business professionals (like realtors or repairmen etc.)
>>
>>674770834
I wear shoes in the home and I don't expect people to take off their shoes when they visit unless they are really dirty. I normally don't be wearing shoes in the home unless I'm about to go out of just came in, over all not a big deal unless you have dirty shoes.

>>674770834
I'd like to clarify that I'm never without socks, I think that a man should always wear socks. Women don't have to but they have pretty feet and I'd expect if you take off your shoes in my home that you have socks on.
>>
>>674770834
Generally, the poor and lower middle class remove their shoes in the home
>>
I have sandals that i only wear in my house, but i never go out with them, they're just for in the house
>>
If you have a guest over its not uncommon to let them wear they're shoes inside for a bit. Or if I come home from one thing and I have another thing in an hour or so I sometimes just don't want to unlace my boots so I'll sit and watch a program with my boot on. If shoes are in side they often pass the living room or kitchen.
>>
>>674771632

i don't but it's about half and half really. i saw somebody put their feet on the bed with shoes on once and almost gagged. fucking white trash.
>>

How many poor and middle class people do you know? How many "rich" people do you know?

I would disagree with that I'd day it's mostly middle class then rich then poor. since when do poor people care about keeping their floors clean

>>674770834

>>674770834
Some wear shoes some dont. I dont just because its more comfortable. Its not the norm to take them off at someone elses house or anything though. Some people will ask you to as ro protect their carpet. Its just a preference, nothing cultural or retarded.
>>
>>674772139
>>674772188

Butthurt shoe removers identified.

Look into the history (non Japanese) of removing shoes in the home.

No one with any degree of class walks around during without shoes on, other than at a beach. Even at a pools, it's proper to wear a sandal or flip flop to the pools edge.
>>
>>674772518
You're wrong. It is very much a cultural thing, like plastic in furniture.
>>
>>674770834
i dunno, i usually keep my shoes on for awhile after i get home til i go to the bathroom or something and take them off, i dont put them on til i leave though so either one i guess? also i mostly just wear flip flops so not even real shoes.
>>
>>674772683

>>
>>674771817
This retard is just making shit up. If your home relaxing you are likely to have your shoes off, but just for comfort, its not a cultural thing. Some take them off some don't but its not automatically expected and it has zero to do with income.

Depends. Example- My dad lives in a nice area of a smaller town, and doesn't heat his house a whole lot, so I wear shoes often in his house. Shoes off if you're putting your feet on furniture tho.
However I live in Chicago and keep my place at a godamn reasonable temperature, and do a lot of walking in the melted snow, sludge and bird poop (and have to share public transpo with south side ethnics and homeless fuckwhipes who piss in the subway tunnels), so shoes come off immediately at mine and my friends'

imo it depends on how dressed up people are and what the visit is
like if its a stop in and you're wearing casual shoes, sure take em off if you want to but if its for less than like 15 mins you really dont need to bother .
but if its a function/party obviously you dont take them off
>>
>>674779014
Where do you people live where there is just dog shit all over the place. The only times I have ever stepped in it, it was in my own backyard and those shoes went straight into the trash.
>>
>>674770834
American here, my house is built on a concrete slab, so in the winter i wear shoes inside, but not in summer
>>
My family leaves our shoes at the door. The only time we wear shoes indoors is at a public building or at a friends house, and even then we wait to see what our friend does with their shoes. If they leave them on we keep ours on. If they take their shoes off then we take our shoes off.

If you leave your shoes on in your own house without geusts you are a filthy, primitive nigger and deserve to be deported.
>>
I've seen more people tend to take their shoes off when entering their own home, if they are a visited they keep them on because it's weird to take your shoes off in someones house, in general we do not give a fuck and do whatever.
>>

I have kids and old wood floors. So I wear shoes to avoid splinters and the random Lego brick.
>>
I have house shoes. My entire house is wood floors but i change my shoes when i come inside like Mr. Rogers. Incidentally i never stub my toes walking around the house. My feet are always warm. I live pretty far north so this is a problem most of the year. Get house shoes faggots.
>>
Americans use with welcome mats. You wipe your shoes before entering. You're guests aren't made uncomfortable with rigid shoe rules and your carpets are left intact
>>
>>674771165
Pretty much this. Depends on the household. Some people don't care, hard wood floors, carpet, whatever. As for us, we always take our shoes off when coming in. Always did as a kid, still do as an adult.

I view it as like a "do you smoke in your house" type thing. I'm a smoker and have never smoke inside in any place I've ever lived. I have friends who DO smoke in their place and its gross. Everything stinks, their clean laundry, the furniture etc.

It's just whatever people are ok with I guess.

FECES IS EVERYWHERE
FECES IS ALREADY EVERYWHERE
YOU HAVE FECES ON YOUR FEET AND SOCKS
YOU HAVE FECES ALL OVER YOUR WALLS AND FLOORS
>so this thread would have me think
>>
>>674770834
In U.S. it's literally house rules on that one. Some do and some don't. Personally, I wear shoes sometimes and not others. When I'm either about to go outside or not concerned with lowering my temperature I'll wear shoes pretty much indefinitely.

I also sometimes wear shoes simply because I'm weird af and like to spend my time working towards being completely silent, so sometimes I'll just keep them on so my trips downstairs become an exercise in maintaining silence through an unusually noisy medium. Socks in that game mode are almost not worth any effort.

Long story short, check by the door(s). If there are shoes, leave your shoes by the door. If your shoes are at all dirty, leave them by the door. If your shoes aren't dirty, ask if you're supposed to leave them by the door. That's like the whole list of possibilities.

America is a free counry, so it's up to each individual. You could be asked to remove your shoes (most of the time due to carpet or for cleanliness reason) but most of the time you can do what you're comfortable with. Bad weather is usually more cause to remove the shoes so you don't track dirt. But as far as cultural or religious reasons/norms over america as a whole... nope
>>
>>674782246
Personally in my own home I take my shoes off
And at most other peoples home, if im going to be there a while Ill take them off for comfort reasons, if its a short visit I'll keep them on.

Sometimes if someones house just seems dirty I'll keep my shoes on so my socks don't get dirty lol obviousy they wouldn't mind since their home is shitty anyway

It's more of a home culture thing. If your parents raised you to wear shoes in your home, then that's what you got in a habit of doing or vice versa.
If you were raised to use washcloth when bathing, then that is the method you follow rather than straight bar of soap or vice versa.
It has nothing to do with culture, skin tone or religious belief. You could also have been raised to do one thing but in your young adult life chose to do the other instead.

For all intents and purposes, yes.

We typically do not pay much attention to whether we are wearing our shoes, even though we are inside.

There are exceptions, of course. For example, my family's second home has white carpet throughout. That means shoes off in the entry way. But in our house that mostly has tile, there is no rule about our living room that also has white carpet.

In general, compared to wherever you are from, we probably wear our shoes inside a whole heck of a lot.

You are probably correct that you see it on TV more than what happens in real life because they are actors, but it's also because an American audience would not even pick up on it in a scene where they are all wearing shoes in a bedroom.
>>
>>674770834
Some yes, seems to me like most no. Especially if there is carpeting in the house. The only people I know who let people wear shoes throughout the house have hardwood or linoleum everywhere.
