50 was just an example. I mean most of Americans talk that earning 40-50k per year is not much. However, when you divide it by 12, it is a lot, over 4000 per month. Is it before taxes then? Or are people really used to high salaries?

I get paid the same regardless of the client, only plus to ERP work for me is much more lenient expenses policies.

I'm not sure what direction to push things next though, if I lean more toward the business end of things that typically surrounds ERP work then it'll be better for career longevity, but it's so fucking dull.
>>
>>674665602
>ERP
>what the user wants

If you want a user friendly ERP go to one of the niche startup ERP firms. You go to SAP or Oracle because it's tried and tested, and you have the money to spend on 3 year implementations that run over budget and over time.

Problem is in most circumstances the usability will be an afterthought when you're struggling to get the solution out the door in time with the minimum required functionality, and once that's done, any and all resources will be needed elsewhere, meaning there's no one left but green new support teams, with far too much on their plate for any kind of continuous improvement.

Not an ideal situation, but unfortunately how things usually end up.

And I usually try to keep as far away from users as possible, I generally leave that the BAs.

Hindsight is great isn't it? The joy of being a consultant, at least in my specialism, is that once I've delivered, it's no longer my problem. I do tend to feel morally obliged to not give clients absolute shit though, because I've had to deal with absolute shit from people.

What we need are product sets that don't need the endless tweaking and can work together, in a vendor agnostic way. Not that that will ever happen. Spent 3 weeks just trying to get a client to okay a tool because it was open source and they didn't like that.

Is it worth going for IT (I mean a REAL CS degree, not this wishwash program) to University or most likely not?
>>
>>674667844
Everything in SAP is a bitch. However their components do plug together very smoothly, which is really nice, if you have a full SAP environment. The problem is that a full SAP environment will cost you X million.

The best way to improve any business' processes will be a tailored solution, but people are lazy and want a brand names ERP instead. Which is funny because in the long run it will be less appropriate, less efficient, and more time consuming and expensive to implement.

But who am I to tell a client they're a fucking idiot for choosing the product which will probably earn us higher fees.
>>
>>674667657
I'm with you. I've tried to push sealed up 3rd party software up the chain, but they won't even let you talk about it around the Iseries. Some of our divisions use SAP, but most use epicor. I think the issue is that most companies try to take a one size fits all ERP, and customize it. That's where everything breaks in my experience.

>>674668510
The problem is as much the project management as it is the project. To implement, say, SAP Finance, the Finance department will want to own the project. Because they think it's a finance project. But they won't know the first thing about implementing a solution, be it a finance system or not.

If authority figures in organisations were so far up their own ass that they couldn't recognise they aren't the experts on everything, and then left it to those who are, these projects would run a lot more smoothly. Instead we get people vetoing the most appropriate tool for a job because someone once read in the news that a hacker used an open source tool, or something equally ridiculous.

If you go through the proper lifecycle of how IT enabled business change SHOULD happen, you'll run into a fraction of the problems.

How it should happen will eventually have to happened, at least in my industry. Increasing customer demand paired with an increasingly lean business model due to space will eventually require a huge jump in software function and infrastructure to avoid catastrophic losses. Space is a huge issue in a manufacturing environment. Everything just in time on 20 week firm supply chains is damn near impossible.

Its not that its hard. Being a freshman you have a better opportunity than I do now. Get into research, get experience. I have everything down except experience because I fucking hated all the research projects available. They were all boring and sucked. Otherwise, the job field is not bad and with a BS in physics, I'm looking at around $55,000

I'm 29 and never had a job in my life.

I literally cannot comprehend how anyone can commute for 1 hour a day work 8 sleep 8. shower/shit/cook/clean 3 hours

1+3+8+8 = 20 hours

that leave you with 4 hours to breath. Those 4 just disappear if you have a family or ANYTHING ELSE TO DO THAT DAY. LIKE A MILLION THINGS.

nah man.... i can't deal with it. I am just gonna ride this shit out as long as I can and end it alone in my room and in peace.

Find a career you like and you'll never work a day in your life. I've been working as a funeral director for 6 years and thoroughly enjoy my work. But he's/she's already doing it, £'m tired of that expression since the main part is left out "very few people find that." Since work is work and being able to blur it to the point where the monoimus is enjoyable daily is rarely done. Let the man do what he loves and pass on.
