You cannot evaluate in terms of comparison to what comes after. Citizen Kane broke new ground in what was possible in film as an art form. Now, because so many if thise techniques are recognizable to us, it loses luster. But at the time it was a revolution, and its quality must be evaluated in those terms.

But that is not true, 99.999999% of people mentioning Citizen Kane explicitly state that it's one of the greatest films ever made and nothing else modern could compare to it, implying the quality of movies have gone since then, which as you even stated is not the case.


So my judgement of the movie still stands, it sucks and anyone who is trying to say it's good is an idiot.
Because only 0.000001% of the time would I actually be wrong and I'm happy with that error rate.
