Hi /b/
In this thread we show our first computers.
>pic related
>pic related.
>>674493213
this one but with a casette player
>>674494940
The disk drive for the C64 was so damn slow it hardly outpaced the cassette!
>>674494940
The Vic 20 or the c-64
90s nigggaaa
>>674495210
vic 20
Used these at my high school. 8KB memory!
>>674495793
Forgot pic. Doh!
>>674495118
i know, but it was easyer to find a specific game if you had more than one on the disk
didn't need to ffwd to a certain number before starting to load
probably my favorite computer ever
>>674496027
True enough. I was just really used to the disk drive for the Apple ][, which was lightning fast compared to the disk drive for the C-64.
I still have it.
Still works
>>674497562
I had an Apple IIe in my college dorm room, and dialed in the the university's VAX mainframe with it. Discovered USEnet, and found some newsgroups with porn stories. I remember fapping to a Brady Bunch incest story. LOL!
>>674497944
Yeah, computer faps were...challenging... back then.
>>674497562
How are your floppies holding up? I had a IIe all the way to about 2000, but the floppies starting dying on me, like flies.
>>674498670
Well, that last pic was from September and every disk i tried still worked. Pretty lucky.
>>674498931
Cool. Glad you're having better luck than I did. I miss my IIe. I have a really good emulator, but it's not the same.
>>674496108
Yes. not my first computer, but my favorite.
Dad's friend bought it in the 80's, but didn't know crap about what to do with it, so he gave it to me to mess with. Programming with line numbers was my baby-steps into the computer world
>>674493213
lulz, I had one of those, then a Commodore 64, then a Mac Plus.
>>674499188
Yeah, there's something about flipping on the switch, hearing the beep, and the sound of the disk drive chattering away.
>>674493213
The first some I "used" was an Apple 2e my Nan had.
>>674495567
ayyee i played this raptor game on that computer that was lit af
>>674499748
YES YES THIS!!!!!!!
>>674499748
I had one of the earlier models. 16k, chicklet keyboard. I upgraded the RAM to 64k, swapped in a real keyboard, added a disk drive. Loved that computer.
trash 80, had the first zork on 6 floppies
>>674499748
me too anon
>>674499748
>>674500019
Remember Raakatu? Bedlam?
Tandy 2000
>>674493213
Still have this bad boy. I've upgraded to a 386, it's a screamer.
>>674500572
Man, those numbers. Really hammers home how far things have progressed!
bet you kids havn't played with one of these.
my first computer.
>>674493213
I'm still a macfag, too
>>674500572
I remember the first hard drives for home computers. Literally $10,000 for 10meg. They said "you'd never fill it!"
>>674500694
Same here, /b/ro. Loved Starflight on 5 1/4" floppy. Had to make copies of the originals to play it.
>>674499283
zx 81
a few years later upgraded to spectrum
I still have a working spectrum (not that I ever boot it)
>>674498931
BTW, that's a highly modded 2e. 1mb RAM, 3.6Mhz cpu, and RGB color video card.
used to use punchcards to program terminals at high school , but i had a commodore 64
I had a DIGI-COMP I. It was awesome.
And get off my lawn.
Came with an ASCII version of Space Invaders; its nickname was Darth Vader's Lunchbox.
>>674501636
I missed the punch cards by 2 years. We used a DEC Writer terminal with a built in printer that had an acoustic coupler modem connected to a PDP-11 mainframe. We programmed in APL.
Felt that actually showing it was the right thing to do.
Nosy cat as a bonus.
>>674501636
We had Decwriter II at high school, but I took a Fortran class at the local college and we used punch cards on some hideous Sperry Univac mainframe.
>>674495118
I had a fast loader cartridge and that helped immensely.
Also preferred cracked games that would load into the much faster screen buffer and then decrunch with pretty colors.
>>674493213
definitely need one of these with a c64
>>674501978
lol, this thing looks like someone hooked up a monitor and keyboard to a toaster.
>>674502140
i had one of those on mine.
>>674501978
This was sweet. Really the first practical portable.
For anyone still in possession of their Commie, this http://www.1541ultimate.net/ brings shit to the next level
>>674493213
/r/eporting in
This thread hurts me /b/ro's.
Where the fuck did the time go, and look how far we've come....
Apple IIe here.
>>674495118
you could get this for your floppy drive to speed it up
>>674502685
I coded my own BBS for my 2e. Buckaroo Banzai themed, called The 8th Dimension. I ran it on 4 drives.
Oh yeah, all Apple 2 fags- how many nights did you waste playing Taipan?
>>674493213
I had the Commodore Vic-20 with the cassette tape deck.
>>674493213
Loved the crack scene in those days and the advanced copy protection schemes people tried to implement.
>>674502996
>>674502996
>>674493213
That was my first computer, too. I remember starting to use it on my own when I was 4, in 86'. Blood and Guts, Caveman Games, and Cops n' Robbers were some of my favorite games. But we had at about 150 disks, each with multiple games on there my older brother pirated and copied. His friend would bring over his 300 baud modem and they'd get onto random business networks. Seemed like they were hacking, but looking back I figure they more than likely were just viewing public text files. Good stuff....
>>674502026
haxor kitteh is best kitteh
>>674493213
awe yiss.
poke 54272, 0
>>674493213
I had the same computer. Jumpman Jr. was my favorite game. Ghostbusters was pretty good, too.
>>674503288
I still play Defender of the Crown through once or twice a year.
>>674503166
I didn't play too many games on my Apple II+, but I did spend 1000s of hours being stoned and writing trig (sin, cos, tan) programs to make HGR screens of weird patterns.
>>674497944
Jesus christ. How fucking old are you? I'm 34 and faggots rag on me for being too old on /b/. Even though I started lurking when I was 27! Are you like 45?!
>>674494613
My fucking man!! Tape cassette storage and all!
>>674503216
Oh the ESI intro brings back memories. Remember them cracking all the best disk-only games at the time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stfkI6dnq80
Never got into that myself, but was part of the demo scene for a while.
>>674503625
Dude, from the computers posted in this thread, I think many of the anons are 40+.
>>674503507
poke 53281,1
>>674503625
not him but, im 40, we had apple II's in our third grade classroom, im betting hes 50-ish
I miss this thing ;_;
>>674503625
54.
I don't usually lurk /b/ though, but you learn to treasure a thread like this that /v/ or /g/ could never stop from derailing.
>>674504007
Yeah, as I scrolled down I saw that. I like that. This is the first thread in years where I felt I was in here with people my age and not a bunch of fucking asshole 14 year olds! I was born in 82', so my first pc was the C64, I had two functioning C64 disk drives and keyboards, plus the printer and tons of games. I move to FL in 2005, move back home in 2006 and found out my fucking mom threw it all away because she didn't think it worked... I was so pissed.
>>674493213
not trolling
C-64 might be the greatest PC of all time. It had more ram than any other for like 7 years. It was wayyyyy ahead of its time. It also had GeoWorks which Microsoft stole the Windows design from.
Also: Commodore Amigas were still being use in some colleges in the early 2000s - 25 years after they came out.
True Story
>>674504227
51 here. There's a lot of IRL old fags here. We just don't advertise it.
>>674503625
this is not some secret kids club
there are just as many old guys here as there are on reddit
>>674504402
Also - if you guys are just fucking trolls acting older than you are, then you guys are pleasant trolls.
>>674503625
Not him either but I'm 42.
>>674504069 here
>>674504227
>>674504442
do you anons work in IT or a technology related field?
I'm 18
>>674504415
I was 5 years old playing the fuck out of Kawasaki Rhythm Rocker. The only song I can remember off the top of my head (since this was the first time I thought of it in 20 years) was Van Halen's Jump.

>>674501378
Good lord you're a youngster.
>>674505023
well then show us your ipad, faggot
>>674499283
I remember seeing an ad for that in Pop Sci magazine. I think it was $119 at the time, or you could buy it as kit (you solder all the components) for $99.
>>674504442
true story
im 42 and just tapped a 23 yo bartender last night
she came 4 times
>>674504442
52, remember programming the Altair and IMSAI as a kid.
Had these toy "computers"
>>674501723
>>674500649
Good times.
>>674505019
Sure do.
I'm on the board of directors now, don't actually get involved in the hardware as much as I used to.
Still have a decent array of vintage hardware in my den though.
>>674504415
Koala Pad ftw!
>>674505349
>lying on an anon weeb chan
pics or it didnt happen
Thanks for the decent thread guys.
Seems it's over now.
>>674505019
No, but I can't keep away from technology. I own a larger gaming website, have a few game servers connected to it... computer shit keeps me centered.
>>674505438
>IMSAI
Ever played a nice game of chess?
For those of us who were into computers in the early 1980s, remember the Cray-1 super computer? Remember when you realized your first smart phone was more powerful?
>>674505613
kid- i dont have pics and if it's easier for you not to believe me, so be it
my cock knows and so does her vag/mouth/anus
>>674502477
Dude, we all had one. When they built the C64 from the VIC-20 design, the hardware was capable of pulling a byte at a time of the floppy, but the old firmware still did 1-bit serial transfers and they chose not to rewrite it, so the C64 came with that built-in limitation. THe cartridge replaced the firmware with routines that took full advantage of the hardware for about 5X improvement in transfers.
I learned to hack on one of these bad boys. Man, those were the fucken days.
I wish I took the games I wrote commercial instead of going to college, I would have made millions. oh well, at least I have some letters after my name. :/
>>674504442
50 here, with maturity stuck at about 15 in many ways.
>>674505019
EE, moved over to tech sales for greater cashish.
