So when you smell something it's from little particles of what your smelling go into your nasal passage right? So smelling shit is literally little poo particles going into your nose.

Could you, in theory, smell a hole in something, like a leather coat? If I sniff hard in the same spot on my leather coat would I deteriorate the leather into smell?
