The pet store i bought them from wasn't very large. I'm not all that sure they knew either since they never told me.

Also, yeah some can get like 4-5 inches long
Gary and Gnome are a little over 2 1/2 if that helps, maybe longer but i didn't measure them last time they molted so they could be longer inside their shells since they sometimes curl into them depending on the shell.

I used to have a ton but they all died by leaving their shell and not going into one that was bigger or smaller. I had an awsome blue Jamaican one and she was killed by fighting a giant one even though they had food, shells, water, and a gigantic plastic swimming pool. clypeatus are the ones that do pretty good in captivity, so everyone that meets the care requirements should get them to live well over 10 years

the other species are more prone to dying prematurely because of too low temp./humidity, too shsllow substrate or other mistakes.

perlatus are the biggest pussies, they usually die within a few years after purchade (often after a few weeks/months)
that's exacly why I refuse to buy this species.

The short live of hermits is a myth because most people don't know how to care for thrm right, but OP knows how to do it, so if he's lucky, he will have his for years to come.

I had 3 hermit crabs but when I was a lot younger, 9-10ish. Loved those fuckers for like 2yrs. and then I remember thinking one day roughly a year later last seeing them "Huh, i wonder what happened to them" thinking my parents must have given them away.

Nope, about a year after that thought i found them on top of a cupboard. three little shells covered in mold. To this day i dont know who put them there. probably mum at the time cleaning around where the cage usually was. and forgot to put them back.
