Most of us aren't sure. There are lots of theories but none of them really hold much water. The unifying factor is that most of us get this sort of elation or "high" from reading them.
For most of us it is not a sexual thing, and most of us find other abuse (including /b/'s regular rekt threads) to be fairly distasteful.
