I wanted to go into the military as a kid and then become an engineer. I realized the military was for people that either needed money/college and had no alternative or people that could blindly follow orders. I got authority issues and would get kicked out pretty fast. The boot camp/physical requirements are a joke for anyone in decent shape, I would just honestly tell superiors or fuck off and get my ass kicked/thrown out.

Engineering seemed like it was getting flooded in recent years like forensics and compsci. Teaching/police/EMTs don't get paid enough. Wasn't sure where to go.

Ended up taking a few years off as a CNC setup tech. Fun job, but 50k a year working 50-70 a week sucks. Went back to school for accounting so I can work 40 and get at least 60k starting.

It's w/e. Guess I'm going to crunch profit margins for the next 30 years until I blow my brains out in a failing marriage around 45. At least I'll have money fuck it.

Cop, then I realized I didn't want to risk my ass to deal with all that nigger drama, so I went to school and got a worthless degree in graphic design, did that for a while at a print shop, place went belly up, starting freelancing, did okay, lucked into a job at a utility which is essentially typical office worker bullshit but it tops out at around ~$45/hour after the apprenticeship is over and I've been there 6 years. Sitting at $35 atm. The pay is great, it's mon-fri 9-5, chance at overtime if you want it, but the work is much less satisfying then working as a freelance designer. I honestly regret not being able to work sitting at home on and off on my own time but the pay is really good, and it's steady work that honestly takes a lot less effort on my part, it's just boring. I've pretty much convinced myself to just deal, work to live, don't live to work etc. and just try to enjoy my non working hours as much as I can. My monthly expenses are still only ~1200 on average. I can easily end up with $38k+ or more depending on if I work overtime, after taxes. I'm still vaguely considering saving up a nest egg and giving freelance another shot since I prefer the lifestyle but I feel like I'd just be kicking myself for giving up such steady pay, a job that I will most likely never luck into again.
