I normally alternate between fantasies of fucking women and then fantasies of getting fucked by large black guys because it makes me cum faster than if I had kept going with another girl (porn girl). I jack off on my break and then almost continuously when I'm home. It's normally around a dozen or so times, maybe more.

hello, final year highschool student here. (Turned 18 a few days ago)

im aspiring to become a surgeon.
Its partly religion driven, at a young age i wanted to make people's lives better/help people for a living. It was a calling, coming from my personality and all the suffering I've seen.

ever since the start of senior year or earlier, i got a vocation to be a doctor, more specifically surgery. because i like how you guys hands on save lives and help people for a living.

However high school senior is proving to be difficult and i'm not the best student in my classes. With tons of effort, i usually get C's and the occasional B. I partly blame my shit report writing skills.
I'm starting to doubt myself feel like i can't make it.

My question, what advice would you give for someone in my position.
Can you recommend doing something now which would help me in my path?

I'm very passionate about this, getting into Surgery has been my dream for so long. without it i feel like my life isn't worth living.
>>
>>673487055
Said in reference to those that came before us. Besides being Men among men, they had opportunities to make a lot of money. Now, the culture has changed and the breed is weaker, as well as there being significant changes to the economics of the business that restrict earning potential. But... See above: that's not important.

>>
Do you believe a person's being is defined by the conclusions he/she draws from past experience?

What do you actually DO? I mean, describe the problem, the process of how you solve it, etc etc.
This shit sounds super interesting but I don't really want to devote several years of my life studying for this.
>>
>>673489294
Just study, anon, just study. The more you know, the easier life is. When you have to make an essential decision at 3am, it is easier when you have mastered the material. Maths? Nothing fancy is needed in the real world. But if you have to pass tests, make sure you ace them.

What does a neurosurgeon do?
The simple answer is the diagnosis and management (medical and surgical) of disease and disorder of the central and peripheral nervous system of the neonatal, pediatric and adult population.
It's kind of a broad question, anon.
I meet people, sometimes in the ER when they can't talk and sometimes in the office when they got the sciatica, and I make a determination if they may benefit from surgical intervention (5 minutes ago, sometimes in the near future, potentially in the far future or never at all), decide on a plan, execute the plan (get another scan in a month, meet in t6 months to see how they're doing, do surgery in 6 minutes to save their life...), meet them after the fact to see how they are doing and see if there is anything else I can do.

I have noticed severe memory loss, think stopping mid sentence trying to find the right words. This happened after I was knocked down on town last year. Any chance of that getting even worse?

Malpractice is very state-dependent (torte reform): if there is a damage cap, the coverage is reasonable. If no cap, coverage hurts. The tail is the worst. Google that.
Worst docs are those that don't care. Fuck those fuckers. Anyone that doesn't take care of their patients is dead to me.

Thanks, I'll read that, as a future psychologist I find it really interesting, any doctor has a certain responsibility over his patient and this seems very hard to bear as the professional when odds aren't on the patient's side. If you happen to know where I can find more about it...

But this thread is becoming full of personal question about their own troubles, so i'll let you answer that.

Have a good one anon

OP, does a neurosurgeon ever get to see patients naked?

My biggest fantasies have to do with doctors examining my wife. Her gyno is a woman. She's only had one doctor see her tits one time, which makes me sad.

Anyway, if I was a doc, I'd want the fringe benefit of seeing hotties naked at work. Do you?

I'm a high school senior with big dreams of medicine someday.

Are there any opportunities for a pre-med to get close to surgeries? I'm probably just going to get a CNA cert this summer and EMT later, but I would love to know if there's any way for me to get into the OR.

Is it true that if you want to go into neurosurgery you basically have to go to Harvard/Hopkins/UCLA/etc.? If I go to my state med school, are great Step 1 scores and rotational evaluations good enough?

Should I major in math/compsci and work in a computational biology lab? Or should I major in chemical engineering?

My state med school (OHSU) claims it is #1 for neurosurgery. I don't see them on USNEWS rankings. Are they bullshitting?

Sorry for all the questions, but you people are basically my idols.

Good questions
First step is to decide if Med school is for you. There should be an advisor at your school to help you navigate the process. Make sure your motivation is pure and well stated. It will help you make the right decision.
Next: get into Med school
Next: keep an open mind and explore all options. As I told anon above, if there is anything else you want to do, do that instead. Once you have decided what you want to do, do that. Make a connection with your school's dept in whatever field you are interested in. That will help you so much more than any bullshit like USNews whatever the fuck or whatever you read on an online forum. Name brands and reputation are meaningless. Just be certain of your motivation (you will wake up every day and have to do whatever you claim it is you want to do; make sure it's for the right reasons). God speed, anon.

that sounds good. i have been told that i will have to double my prescription in order to counteract post-procedure seizures, but i am annoyed at this since that is that reason why i am having this procedure--to get rid of them. i understand that the healing and formation of new neuronic bonds will of course likely lead to more random firings, but they tell me that i wouldn't be able to reduce the medication, that i hate and despise the side effects for, until two years after the procedure. and this is, of course, given that the procedure is actually proactive and reduces my chance of seizures. is this worth it?

I don't do seizure surgery, anon, at least not since residency, because I know my limits. It's a specialized field. The objective is to be seizure free. Continuing your meds is typical, but after 6 months (typical) without a sz, you start tapering them. Not everyone gets off all their meds, anon, but it should be at least explored. If your doc is saying 'no anon, your meds will be increased post op and it will be permanent,' that sounds fucked up. Why do the surgery in the first place? It may be worth asking for a referral for a second option, /b/ro. It's your brain. Make sure you're happy with the plan. Good luck

>>
>>673500932
i agree. and i appreciate your opinion. please keep it. in all honesty, i've already had the procedure three years ago. i'm just annoyed that they haven't let me come off of the medication fully yet. i understand that the whole department is not meant uphold the biological safety of the patient, and when it comes to the implications that that may have on their personal life given the ways they advise to take in order to achieve it i think there is a bit of a loss of understanding. i've been to many meeting with epileptics that have been on the medications that i have been on and they always talk about completely different trips, and this obviously has to do with the dynamic and individualistic 'programming' of our own personal brain tissue as well as other bodily functions. i believe that many neurologists don't understand that we will be dealing with these issues for months or years before they allow us to change them, only because, quite frankly, they just want us to have less seizures. is less seizures means to me that i don't feel my life anymore, and that everything seems colorless and dull, i don't think that i want to take that medication anymore. have been on depakote, keppra, lamictal, zoloft, and effexor. currently on keppra and effexor.

epianon here. post-op they had me on 4x1000mg keppra and 75mg lamictal per day. side effects mingled with natural post-op side-effects weren't nice. every day seemed to go by without anything standing out. had some complex partial seizures for a few months. eventually i convinced them to take me off of lamictal and take the keppra down to 2x1000mg per day. now on the effexor as an antidepressant. want to just come off of everything and see if maybe i can be myself again. i'm always tired. at the time of this whole thing i was in college, and this whole ordeal caused me to withdraw from two years and eventually just drop out. i've been trying to catch back up and live progressively since then but it doesn't seem to be making any progress. what gets to me is that i understand the method of action for keppra and effexor, and they effectively counteract each other, not even mentioning that keppra isn't explicitly affecting only certain neurotransmitters, just the receptors. basically there are still ~20+ neurotransmitters that are being directly effected by keppra. they want me to have another EEG to see if that region still seems ready to fire, if you will, but i don't have the cash or coverage to do that anymore.

Fuuu-- anon. That's a lot. Like I said: keep on keeping on. Get back to school and finish it when you are ready. Be careful with self-tapering of meds. If you know your sz and you've got someone around (like, you're not living alone), you can more safely try to taper. The thing to remember is that there are limits to what we know. We know a shit-ton about the brain, NTs, etc, but there is even more that we don't know. We don't even know what we don't know. My point is: you can reasonably and safely modify your meds as long as you are doing it with a concrete objective in mind. Don't get hung up on the 'science' or on what other people do/don't do. Focus on you and your journey and take baby steps, safe baby steps, in that direction.

(Not OP) but a fun question for "medfags" that seem to be lurking.
A 50-year-old woman was admitted after she abruptly noted the onset of a mild headache and the appearance of uncontrolled movements on the left side for a few days but this seemed to improve when the movements began. Her past health had been quite good except for hypertension for which she was receiving treatment with alphamethyldopa. Except for a blood pressure of 150/100 mm Hg the general physical examination was normal. The neurologic examination revealed the following abnormalities. There was a left homonymous hemianopia. Most conspicuous were writhing, rotary, jerky involuntary movements involving the left extremities and sometimes the trunk. At times they were violent. They were aggravated by puposive movement. The most likely diagnosis is which of the following:
a) Hemichorea
b) Athetosis
c) Focal seizures
d) Dystonia musculorum
e) Hemiballismus

i'm proud to say that i have never self-tapered, but i am becoming closer to trying. i'm tired of what seems to be me wasting my life on something that i never wanted and what very well may be changed by not taking this stuff anymore. and i agree with your statements. honestly, neurology is like the psychology of medical science--it's plastic as shit. honestly, all i want to do is come as far off of it as i can and try to get back to who i was before this whole thing started. i was much more happy before this started, everything was brighter and more enjoyable. you know when you're walking down the street and you just notice some odd thing on the side of the road that sort of takes you on a mental trip and maybe you just smile at it and then just walk away? i used to get that before this all happened. i used to be able to observe much more. now i'm more pensive and just subjectively empty. that's why i want to get rid of this. and please trust me, i'm not foolish enough to have gone through all of this just to fuck up and drop all my medication over a weekend and think that'll go ok. all i want is to at least have my neurologists support me in reducing this. ultimately, it doesn't matter what they say, it is always my own decision to take the dosages during the day. all i want them to do is just to tell me what to do, i don't want to hold them accountable. i've talked to epileptics that will go on meds for several months and then titrate and drop for years until they have another. and they only start again in order to help them not have another. and when they come off they always mention how much better they, themselves, feel.
