DAVENPORT, Iowa —Iowa State Highway Patrol Troopers have released their final report about the suicide of Kat Lyons.
The transgender 20 year old died March 1 2016, when he stepped into traffic on southbound Interstate 280.
Troopers said Lyons died from blunt force trauma sustained after he was struck by a 2006 Freightliner semi-truck.
Investigators at the scene of the crash found Lyons' backpack and laptop computer inside. It was examined as evidence, where detectives found searches for suicide prevention and runaway assistance. There was no suicide note saved on the computer.
Troopers said Lyons' parents found a handwritten note on his bed the night he died that said “I’ve had enough.” His mother threw the note away after finding it, but recovered it for investigators.
Doug and Carla Lyons told troopers their son was dealing with depression and was placed on medication, but seemed to be doing better.
Investigators said they found an iChat conversation on Lyons' computer from the month before his suicide where he told a friend he was considering ending his life.
“I had my jacket and clothes and shoes on,” Lyons wrote. “My suicide note was queued on Tumblr, and I was ready to jump off the bridge next to my house that goes over I-280, but I decided to call a transgender suicide hotline and I basically cried my eyes out for a couple hours talking to a lady on there.”
No drugs or alcohol were found in his system after his death.
