If you're cooking over flame via a grill let the grill get screaming hot. No such thing as too hot when it comes to a steak. Put close to the flame without letting the flames actually touch it, the occasional flair up is ok just don't let it bathe in fire. Let it sit for 2 minutes, don't touch it. After 2 minutes rotate it halfway and leave it for another 2 minutes. Flip it and repeat. Let rest 5 minutes. Eat.

If you have a cast iron skillet just get it hot to the point whispers of smoke start coming off of us. Toss steak in and cook 4 minutes both sides and rest for 5 minutes. Eat.

Salt and pepper is all you need if you don't have much else to season it with. Some Worcestershire sauce would help tenderize it, if you have any.

If you like it medium rare, turn your grill up as hot as it'll go and wait for it to heat up to about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. If no thermometer just turn the shit up high, close the lid, and wait ten minutes.

Use cooking spray or some olive oil on the grill grate before you heat it up. If you don't have any of that don't worry, grease should prevent it from sticking too much.

When the grill is heated throw he motherfucker on there and close the lid. Let it sit for 5 minutes then flip it. Let if t sit another 5 minutes then flip it again, this time turning it 45 degrees so the grill lines will be almost perpendicular to one another. Clos kid and cook another 3 minutes. Flip and close lid. Cook another 3 minutes.

Remove from heat and you're ready to go, should be nice and pink in the middle. Of course there's all kinds of variables such as wind, outside temp, etc, so you can always use the touch test of you don't think it's done enough. A medium rare steak should still be a little squishy when you poke it with your finger but also hit with a nice seat in the meat. This is why the highest grill setting is preferable.

If you like your steak medium or higher, just throw the motherfucker on and grill for like 10 min on both sides and it's done when it's not squishy anymore.

Actually no, extra virgin olive oil is terrible for high heat, what you're actually doing is breaking it down and burning it. You should learn about smoke points, it's important to know. You might like the flavor but I'm guessing you haven't cooked for many people as burning extra virgin olive oil leaves an acrid taste behind. You can dress foods after they've been cooked and it'll give a good flavor. If you like it fine and good, but next time you should try what I'm saying and see if you taste the difference. It could be you're the type of person who likes the taste of burnt foods.

Broiling with olive oil is a great way to start a fire in your oven as it can flame up once it passes 350 degrees which destroys any flavor the olive oil would impart leaving you with a burnt flavor (which some people like). If the steak has a good amount of fat there's no real need to oil it at all but if you're going to canola or peanut oil is a better option as they have a higher smoke point. Grapeseed oil is good too, it can get up to like 500 degrees before burning.

Depends on what type of olive oil you're using as the different types have different smoke points. And just because that's where the maillard reaction starts doesn't mean that's the temperature to sear beef, you need temps of 400+ to properly sear to avoid steaming your meat which will give it a gray texture. The truth is there's no point to oiling a steak before cooking it to begin with as most oils will burn off before you finish cooking. A properly cooked steak using the right equipment will naturally unstick itself and if you want to impart flavor dress it with extra virgin afterwards. Personally I like to put a pad of butter on my steak while it rests.

I personally find medium rare to have the best texture but to each their own. I've eaten meat extremely rare and like the flavor fine it's the chewy texture I don't care for. Thin cuts of meat like flank steak though I'll just get a pan screaming hot and cook it for like 20 seconds on both sides and eat with something spicy. Ribeye or porterhouse medium rare all the way for me though, but hey, more power to you if you like it.
